Ever since its release, World of Warcraft has become an international hit. Blizzard keeps coming out with new expansions over time-keeping things fresh. From the original release to the future expansions, we list when each World of Warcraft expansion will arrive.
The Original World of Warcraft
It began with the initial World of Warcraft game dropping on November 23, 2004. This particular game laid the foundations for the level 60 cap and classic raids like Molten Core and the scheming Naxxramas.
The Burning Crusade
The initial expansion, The Burning Crusade, portalled in on Jan 16, 2007. It raised the level ceiling to 70 and introduced the Blood Elf and Draenei races to play. Plus we visited the otherworldly Outland area and experienced our first arena PvP action!
Wrath of the Lich King
In the subsequent year, on November 13, 2008, this expansion was dropped and became an instant fan favorite. The level limit increased to 80 when taking on the epic villain Arthas. 80. But the real star? The doom-bringing Death Knight hero class. Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel raids still give me chills.
Cataclysm
As for Cataclysm, it nuked Azeroth on December 7, 2010, creating shockwaves throughout the world. With the level cap raised to 85, gamers welcomed numerous Goblin & Worgen races. But the real scene-stealer was Deathwing’s catastrophic return, remaking entire zones.
Mists of Pandaria
On September 25, 2012, the Mists of Pandaria offered a breath of fresh air because of their whimsical Mists of enjoyment. The level cap increased to 90 with the introduction of the squishy Pandaren race and Monk race. For this expansion, the players went to the mystic Pandaria world and fought in the Throne of Thunder.
Warlords of Draenor
The Warlords of Draenor, on November 13, 2014, transported players back to Draenor, the orc homeworld rekindling their connection to this iconic setting. Levels have been increased to 100 and players could maintain their very own garrisons. It also featured new character models and improved graphics.
Legion
The demons of the Burning Legion tried crashing our party on August 30, 2016. Legion allowed us to slay them as the all-new Demon Hunters up to level 110. Opening the Broken Isles was just the tip of the iceberg – artifacts, mythic+ dungeons, it had it all!
Battle for Azeroth
The Alliance vs Horde conflict went nuclear with the Battle for Azeroth on August 14, 2018. Players voyaged to the uncharted Kul Tiras and Zandalar landed as the cap hit 120. Can’t forget the new allied races either – hi Void Elves and Nightborne!
Shadowlands
As for Shadowlands it debuted on November 23, 2020, and transported players into the realm of the dead. This expansion added a level squish which resets the max level to 60. Players broke covenants, explored the Maw, and took on banshee queen Sylvanas Windrunner.
Dragonflight
On November 28, 2022, with Dragonflight, the level cap was raised to 70 and players could choose between the brand-new Dracthyr race or the Evoker class. Dragon riding and custom dragons brought an entirely new level of fun to the table.
Future Expansions
Three more Worldsoul Saga expansions have been announced by Blizzard: The War Within (2024), Midnight (TBA), and The Last Titan (TBA). These expansions will explore new areas, introduce brand-new content, and build on the main arc.
