Is Yoru Going to Dominate Valorant? – Duelist Guide

The day has finally arrived when Yoru is being picked and no longer considered a troll agent. In the past years, Raze and Jett have dominated, but now teams are selecting Yoru on maps like Bind and Split. While Yoru is still seen as a troll agent in regular ranked games, the tide is turning in pro play. Players like Forsaken have revitalized the agent, and Yoru mains have showcased the power of a simple Yoru clone. Keep reading to learn about Yoru’s role in Valorant and how he’s made one of the biggest comebacks in gaming history.

Yoru at Launch vs Yoru Now – Quick Valorant History

Yoru was the worst agent to play at launch. Despite his high potential, Riot failed to deliver. His abilities were useless, like fake steps, now replaced with decoy abilities. His teleports were noisy and lacked impact. Enemies easily spotted him in ultimate form, which has since changed. Now, his ultimate provides much more value.

Though Valorant struggled with Yoru initially, they quickly buffed the agent. However, these buffs didn’t help much, and players still preferred Jett and Raze. Months later, Riot completely changed the agent, introducing new abilities. This led to pros regularly picking him in VCT matches. With the introduction of Breeze, four teams, including G2, Furia, NRG, and Masters winner Evil Geniuses, regularly pick him as their duelist.

How to Play Yoru Effectively

First, understand that duelists don’t always need to “entry” immediately. Jett or Raze typically use utilities to enter sites, the default meta. This doesn’t apply to Yoru. Some Yoru players mistakenly teleport to a site, flash it, and expect an ace before teleporting out. While this tactic works in some ace clips, it’s not reliable. Opponents can counter it by holding the teleport or dodging Yoru’s flashes. Instead, Yoru should be seen as a space creator who relies on information before making plays.

The first major play for any Yoru main is to show presence in multiple parts of the map. Especially on big maps like Breeze, Yoru can rotate, fake, or commit to a site effortlessly. This flexibility is one of his biggest strengths, and every team should capitalize on it. Sending a teleport to one bombsite while fighting confuses enemies regularly. If a Yoru can force enemy team rotations or commit them to a bombsite while his teammates perform a fake hit, his job is done.

Farm Ultimate Orbs to Maximum Impact

Yoru’s ultimate ranks among the best in the game, requiring only 7 orbs. It provides valuable information on enemy whereabouts, helping the whole team. Smart use involves initially scouting one site and then teleporting back to safety.

Combining his ultimate with flashes confuses enemies, making it hard to predict Yoru’s moves. Players needn’t fully commit with the ultimate; instead, they can plan strategies with the information provided. His ultimate functions more like an unbreakable Sova drone than a kill ability. The more information players have, the easier it is to play the round out. Anticipating a Yoru ult often leads defenders to completely leave the bombsite.
