Battlefield is a major player when it comes to Triple-A titles in video games. However, when it came to its last couple of releases, things have not been looking great. This gigantic franchise has not released another banger and fans are hungry. Lucky for them, it looks like EA has been hinting at something that might possibly change the series as a whole.
What Went Wrong with Battlefield?
Battlefield hasn’t had that great of a run in these past years and in my opinion, Battlefield 1 was the last “good” game the franchise offered. Battlefield 5 was good but it wasn’t amazing. All the while Battlefield 2042 was just a massive loss. A lot of fans were disappointed when Battlefield 2042 was released back in 2021 and up until now only 45% of the reviews on Steam are positive.
This is because of the many bugs and technical difficulties the latest game brought with it. The player count rapidly decreased and EA weren’t able to hit their targets. There’s also the fact that the VFX was lackluster and it didn’t have a single-player campaign. It doesn’t end here as well because more and more problems started appearing.
EA and the New Battlefield Game
With the new year, EA has officially teased some aspects regarding the new battlefield game. Most of the information was coming from an EA earnings call. They first mentioned that a new game in the series wouldn’t be released during the 2024 fiscal year. Another thing they mentioned was that it was going to be a “reimagination” of the entire franchise and it might have a “truly connected ecosystem”.
There’s also a rumor stating that there are already three studios that are collaborating to make the game good. First, there’s EA’s DICE which is in charge of the core multiplayer, Ridgeline Games focusing on the player’s narrative experience, and lastly, Ripple Effect which could possibly be working on a Battle Royale mode.
Another incident that we could use to predict what EA is making was the leaker back in 2022. They said that DICE was thinking about setting the game in a modern or semi-futuristic setting. This might worry some fans because it didn’t work out so well with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare.
Hopefully, EA and DICE learn from their mistakes with 2042 and be able to deliver a game that fans will actually enjoy. Other than what we’ve mentioned above, there’s not a lot of detail that was revealed. EA might just make a proper announcement in the latter half of the year. And hopefully, it be able to stand up against Call of Duty again.
