Not Long After Increasing The Server Cap, Helldivers 2 Devs Are Increasing It Again

Helldivers 2’s popularity continues to grow bigger and bigger with each day passing. While some games like Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League and Skull & Bones are struggling to stay afloat shortly after release, Helldivers 2 is suffering from success, as the developers did not expect this game to become an overwhelming success with hundreds and thousands of people trying to play the game.

I say suffering from success because that is what’s happening with the game right now. The game is so popular, everyone who is trying to play the game are not able to play it because so many other people are logged in to play the game as well. Right now, there are 132,008 players in the game, and that’s only on Steam! You can only imagine how many people are playing it right now on PlayStation 5 as well.

When the game first launched, only a handful of people were able to play the game as the servers weren’t equipped to handle having hundreds of thousands of players logging in to play the game. But in the update 1.000.12 patch for Helldivers 2, the developers were able to up the server cap to a whopping 700,000 players, which is astonishing.

It’s impressive when you remember that the developer team for Helldivers 2 consists of only 100+ people. With the server cap increased, and with the addition of kicking AFK players out of the game to allow other people to log in and play the game, Helldivers 2 is getting more and more popular as players are sharing their gameplay clips in social media.

Some are even using their gameplay clips to basically “recruit” people into buying the game and helping them defend Super Earth (in true Starship Troopers fashion). Still, there are still some people who are looking to jump into the game and play it, despite the server cap increase to 700,000. But that doesn’t stop the developers from getting everything in working order for their fans.

On Twitter, the CEO of Arrowhead and the creative director for Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, has confirmed that the server cap will be increased to 800,000, which is 100,000 more from the 700,000 server cap increased that they just did in their last patch. The developer goes on to say that there might still be light queues still at peak, which makes sense as the peak of the game has reached 458,046 in the last 24 hours on Steam, so imagine how many players are playing on PlayStation 5 as well.

In the same tweet, Pilestedt also hypes up his colleagues and studio for achieving this, despite the studio only having 100+ developers working. It truly is an achievement, one that Johan Pilestedt should be proud of as he and his team are able to make such an impact with this game in such a short time. It’s only a matter of time before Helldivers 2 won’t have anymore server issues, allowing players to play the game without any kind of problems.
