Tekken 8 Rage Quitters Beware, Your Rage Quitting Days Are Over

Before playing online was a thing, fighting games were usually played by yourself or with your friends. Back then, the internet wasn’t a thing that many people had access to. In fact, it wasn’t even popular. So when you wanted to play Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter with your friends, you either had to go to the arcade or go to your friend’s house that has a console with two controllers.

There, you can have fun and beat up your friends while playing games like Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken. But sometimes, or your friends will get sick of losing so much that they will just rage quit and stop playing the game as you sit there awkwardly after absolutely demolishing them in a game of Tekken.

It turns out, that practice of rage quitting would continue to be prevalent among so many gamers as decades go by. And when consoles started using internet, rage quitting became the norm for those who don’t want to take their L’s like a man (or a woman). Fighting games became the first games to experience rage quitting online, and a lot of people get sick of those.

But luckily, rage quitting is now being punished by the developers of their games, usually counting it as a loss to the rage quitter and a victory for the one who stayed in the fight. While this still doesn’t stop rage quitters from just quitting the game, it does help stop some players from doing it, lest they want their profile to be seen as a chronic rage quitter.

Fast forward to 2024, rage quitters are still prevalent in the fighting game genre, and there’s nothing the devs can do but just punish those who rage quit. And with Tekken 8 being the fighting game that’s taking the spotlight right now (sorry Mortal Kombat 1), many players are moving over to Tekken 8 to fight other people and get some matches in.

But don’t worry, because the developers now have a plan on how to punish rage quitters in Tekken 8.

Tekken 8 Rage Quitters Will Get Banned If They Rage Quit

During the Tekken Talk Live broadcast, we were able to get a first look at the gameplay for Eddy Gordo, the first DLC character to arrive, as well as some cosmetics that people are able to purchase in the Tekken Shop. But one of the things the developers talked about is the plan to ban Tekken 8 rage quitters.

Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken 8’s director, and Michael Murray, the producer of the game, explained that while they have a desire to resolve this issue, it is a tough matter to go about due to the legal protections of each country. Since Tekken 8 is a game available internationally, they will have to punish players in accords to the legal protection laws of each country.

But despite the developers working on the legal aspect of the punishment, they have both confirmed that they are already working to “remove these people from the game service before proceeding with the bans.”
