Sony Has No Plans To Release Major Games Before April 2025

The PlayStation 5 released way back in November 12, 2020 during the height of Covid. The PlayStation 5 had a rocky start due to the fact that, during this time, scalpers were buying PlayStation 5 and other items in bulk to resell them on other websites, but twice the retail price. Of course, people bought from them since there was no other way, unless they were willing to wait for it.

But for those that did manage to get a PlayStation 5, many have praised it as a great console. Not just for its hardware, but because the games that came out for the PlayStation 5 exclusively has mostly been critically acclaimed. The Last of Us Part I, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Demon Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Final Fantasy XVI and more.

While most of these games are available on PC and will soon be available on PC, people would still buy a PlayStation 5 because that’s where the blockbuster, triple AAA games go first. The games that are made for the PlayStation 5 are nothing short of amazing and spectacular, and people who waited for the games to come on PC usually agree that they are fantastic.

But it seems that we might not be getting anymore triple AAA PlayStation games anymore soon.

Big PlayStation Franchises Will Have No Major Releases Before April 2025

If you’re excited for more God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, or Marvel’s Spider-Man this year or next year, then you might be a little disappointed about what you’re going to read. In a recently financial call, SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) boss, Hiroki Totoki, has made it clear that big franchises like God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man will not be releasing anytime in the next fiscal year.

Here is what he said specifically:

“Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games.” Totoki starts. “But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.” He says.

The company’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2025, which aligns to his statement that there will be no major releases before April 2025. However, this does not mean that there won’t be anymore PlayStation exclusive games coming out soon. As stated by Totoki, there are still major projects still in development. However, these major projects are most likely not their big franchises like God of War or Spider-Man.

So if you’re hoping for more news regarding a Bloodborne sequel or an Infamous sequel, then you may not be getting those anytime soon. We do have games coming out soon this year for PlayStation 5 still, like the timed exclusive, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as well as Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, all of which are due to be coming out this 2024.
