If you’re a fan of fantasy and tactical RPGs, today’s your day. Atlus has just released Unicorn Overlord, their latest tactical fantasy game for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 / 5, and Xbox Series X / S.
Unicorn Overlord aims to deliver on two fronts: through graphics and gameplay. The game offers a vibrant fantasy world that’s a treat for the eyes. You’ll also be diving into classic tactical RPG battles, made even more interesting with a unique combat system that’ll keep you on your toes.
Players take control of Alain, the exiled Prince of Cornia, fighting to reclaim his kingdom Fevrith from the traitorous General Valmore. Alain’s quest that will take you across five diverse nations, where you’ll recruit a mighty army of over 60 unique characters.
Unicorn Overlord offers a few ways to get your hands on the game. There’s the basic Digital Standard Edition for $59.99 / £54.99 / €59.99, which is perfect if you want to get into the action and start playing. If you want a bit more, there’s the Monarch Edition for $69.99 / £59.99 / €69.99; that comes with a digital Artbook and a digital 16-bit arranged music album.
And if you want to go all out, there’s a Collector’s Edition for $129.99 / £109.99 / €129.99. That set comes with a specially-designed outer box, 132-page physical artbook, 2-CD soundtrack, card game with 239 cards, physical copy of the game, and DLC voucher. Meanwhile, those who preordered the game will have access to the Atlus X Vanillaware Heraldy Pack, a DLC set that lets players customize the Liberation Army’s Flag with emblem designs from Odin Sphere, Dragon’s Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
If you’re still unconvinced, Atlus has released a free demo of Unicorn Overlord, with up to five hours of gameplay – enough to get a good feel for the world and the unique battle system. All your progress from the demo can be carried over to the full version, should you choose to purchase the full game.

- Unit Customization: Players can customize their party as they see fit, recruiting allies from different backgrounds.
- Battlefield – Stage: Within each battle stage, both sides will fight to take each other’s command posts in thrilling real-time combat. You, the commander, must keep a close eye on the situation, making critical decisions like which units to send when or where. Victory is secured once you’ve clear certain conditions, such as defeating the enemy general.
- Battle: Individual battles begin when your units make contact with the enemy during a battle stage. Coordinate a unit’s tactics in advance with conditions that determine how and when skills will automatically be used. Balance your allies’ classes and skills to form the strongest units for any situation!
