We all know what Pokemon is. It’s an established franchise by Nintendo that has won award after award. However, there was one game that literally copied it, made it more creative, and has been gaining an increasing player base. It’s no other than Palworld and it seems like it’s getting both love and hate from players. So we have to ask the question, is Palworld worth it?
Palworld Gameplay
As mentioned before, Palworld is very similar to Pokemon but one thing that sets it apart is that it is truly an open-world game. There are survival mechanics where you have to craft items, bases, and even have to eat to be able to thrive. Not only did it take components from Pokemon but from other games as well. This includes Ark Survival Evolved and you can even see hints of Fortnite while playing it. It’s honestly very fun to play and is just wild. It doesn’t hold back and almost anything is possible. There’s even some controversy where you can catch humans, use guns, and kill Pals for food.
Another interesting mechanic it has is that Pals can do the work for you. Of course, it has Palspheres which are essentially Pokeballs. The designs of the Pals and Pokemon also look very similar which is why they say it’s a rip-off. However, that’s not the end of it as there are character stats, weapon upgrades, and more.
Graphics and Character Creation
Another thing that sets Palworld apart though is its graphics. For a “rip-off,” the graphics are insanely well done. Admittedly, the graphics are similar to Pokemon as well, however, the world texture and even the overall atmosphere are incredible. You can think of it as a mix between Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Genshin, Ark, and Zelda. The minimum requirements on Steam also say that you need an Intel i5 processor and 16GB of RAM with a GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics Card. On the other hand, the recommended requirements are 32GB of RAM, an Intel i9, and a GeForce RTX 2070. Which incidentally proves just how good the graphics are.
The Character Creation is also very decent where you can customize the character in almost any way you want. Although it is not as powerful as other high-end games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s sufficient enough for Palworld.
Palworld Story
Interestingly enough, there’s no narrative behind Palworld. The entire story is based on you and your actions like Ark and Rust. You begin with nothing and you have to gather stones, wood, and more to build your base. Some people might not like that but Palworld’s game mechanics fit that kind of story-telling perfectly.
