Fortnite’s First Content Drop for Chapter 5: Patch Notes Breakdown

The first content update for Fortnite Chapter 5 has dropped, and a ton of changes have been added to the game. With the launch of new game modes, including Lego and rocket racing, updates for these modes have been included as well. Let’s break down all the major changes and how they affect the new meta of the game.

End of Winterfest Weather

Straight away when you drop off the battle bus, you can see ice melting in almost all the major locations. The use of vehicles should be a bit smoother than what it was before. No new POIs have made their way, and the medallion POIs remain the same too.

New Rocket Launcher & Stealth Items Added

A cardboard box, EMP Stealth Camo, and a new Anvil Rocket Launcher have been included, and they can be found all over the map as regular loot.

  • The Anvil Rocket Launcher now allows players to lock onto vehicles and blow them up. It does not take the standard path of the typical rocket launchers we are used to in Fortnite. Hence, using it directly on opponents isn’t as effective as you might think.
  • EMP Stealth Camo comes in with a pinch of salt. This new item allows players to go invisible temporarily with the aim of sneaking upon opponents and taking them out. It does look overpowered when you encounter it for the first time, but players seem to counter it with ease as more matches are played out.
  • The Cardboard Box has no major impact on the meta apart from having fun by trolling enemies. The item allows you to hide in a cardboard box and jump scare your opponent by popping out of it. Fun yet a pretty useless addition to the game.

Metal Gear Solid Collab

The new Metal Gear Solid collab now allows players with the Battle Pass to complete new challenges to unlock new skins and emotes. The challenges are pretty easy and straightforward, allowing players to unlock them all within a day. As long as the focus is on completing challenges, the time required to unlock the whole bundle isn’t as exhausting as in previous seasons.

Changes to the Guns

  • The Enforcer AR now has faster bullets and deals more headshot damage.
  • The Reaper Sniper Rifle has been nerfed with a decrease in the bullet speed and an increased bullet drop curve.

Lego Update

Epic has finally added the launchpad to Lego mode. Players will now be able to craft a launchpad with a level 3 crafting bench, allowing for easier travel across the map. Make sure you place a flag to remember where you’ve placed your launchpads.

Already, with the existing items, players have gotten super creative in building railway tracks, balloon launchers, and much more. It will be really interesting to see how the new launchpad is used and how creative players get with it. I’m surprised that no new biomes were added; maybe that’s for an update in the near future.

Rocket Racing Goodies Introduced

Players who play Rocket League and Fortnite from the same  Epic account now have the option to claim Drift Smokes after completing a series of quests. These challenges will be available until the end of March, so make sure you claim them if you’ve been playing both Rocket League and Fortnite.
