Epic games lets us brawl in space with free game

It’s Thursday again, which means it’s time for a new free game on the Epic Games Store. This week we engage in a twin-stick battle in space: indoors and outdoors!

It’s Thursday again and that means a free game on the Epic Store! We won’t say no to that. This week we can look forward to the second part of an arcade game where fast reactions are a must and you can battle it out competitively or in co-op during super-fast space battles.

Astro Duel 2

Whoever sees Astro Duel 2 quickly thinks that this is a simple twin-stick shooter in space. Indeed, that’s how it starts: you choose your nanofighter and blast off into space in PvP combat or in co-op bounty mode. Once in your fighter, you immediately notice how fast the game plays. You fly through the levels, spinning and shooting like crazy, through levels that aren’t too big. Because of this, you really have to become proficient at being able to maneuver well and shoot at the same time. However, if you fly into one of the gravity zones, the top-down shooter game suddenly switches into a 2D platforming game. Your opponent can also fly into that zone, literally turning the gameplay upside down!

The game is not easy: get hit twice and it’s game over, but is full of unique levels that involve different missions each time. The game seems made to be played together on the couch, but is also entertaining on your own. If you still want to compete but online is just too intense for you, you can take on adequate AI bots.

You don’t have to play Astro Duel 2 for the story: that is pretty much absent. This game plays like a game from the arcade halls, and that’s probably how long you’ll stay with it.

Free games every week on the Epic Games Store

Unlike many other “free” games, the weekly free games in the Epic Games Store are truly free. You don’t have to do anything for them except claim the game. You don’t need a subscription or any other purchase for it!

Once claimed, the game remains yours forever. Those who regularly claim games in the Epic Games Store have already managed to score hundreds of free games this way, including Death Stranding, Homeworld Remastered Collection, Fallout New Vegas, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War, Shadow Tactics – Aiko’s Choice, Dishonored and many more.

In addition to the weekly free games, Epic has many more games you can score for free. The Epic Games Store also has a large list of games that are always free to play. These include familiar names like Rocket League, Paladins, Smite, Genshin Impact, Neverwinter, Fortnite, World of Warships, Trackmania and League of Legends. The complete list of free games can be found here.

Please note that you can only claim the free games during the period between Thursday 5 p.m. and exactly one week after, but the game is and will remain in your account and free to play forever after that. You don’t even have to download or play the game, if you claim the game during the free period it will be downloadable from the Epic Games Store anytime after that.
