Street Fighter VI players can start off the day today with Ed as a new playable character, along with a host of other changes and additions to the game.

Ed is the 21st character to join the Street Fighter VI roster, and there are multiple ways of obtaining him. If you have the game’s deluxe or ultimate edition, you’re free to unlock Ed today. Otherwise, you’ll need a Year 1 Character or Ultimate Pass to unlock him at no extra cost. The last option would be to pay 350 Fighter Coins to unlock Ed, along with his outfit and alternate colors. And if you don’t want to commit to such a purchase yet, you can use a Rental Fighter ticket to play as Ed for an hour.

You can watch Ed’s launch trailer below.

Ed’s arrival also means additional content in World Tour and Fighting Ground. Ed’s Master Missions and sub-missions are now available to play, along with his story in Arcade Mode. You’ll also start hearing Ed-related commentary from other characters occasionally.

There are also new items added to the Goods Shop, such as the “Ruined Lab” stage and the “Cute” challenge customization options. Two avatar gear bundles are also available – the Racer bundle and the Wild Gunslinger bundle. Items in each bundle are available for purchase individually, so don’t worry about having to buy the entire thing.

The other changes in this patch are mostly fighting ground and battle adjustments, so let’s dive into the patch notes to see what changed. And if you haven’t played the game yet, make sure to check out our Street Fighter VI review to help you decide.

  • Kudos
    • When spectating multiple matches in succession, Kudos will now be added appropriately for the number of matches spectated.
  • Challenges

    • A new type of challenge, consisting of multiple tasks, has been created. For these new challenges, finishing any one of the tasks will result in the challenge being completed.
    • It was previously possible to clear World Tour battle related challenges through Avatar battles online, but this has now been fixed.
      • These challenges will be replaced by the new multi-task challenges mentioned above.

    • The “Street Dance,” “Cameraman,” “Cheer 4,” “Laugh,” and “Cheer 5” emotes have all been added to the list of possible Cheering emotes.
  • Training Mode
