After five years of development, Baby Robot Games released their debut title, Ereban: Shadow Legacy, on Steam. The game takes players to a morally ambiguous universe, combining immersive visuals with a unique “Shadow Merge” gameplay mechanic.
Ereban: Shadow Legacy sets itself apart from other stealth games with its focus on merging with shadows. The protagonist, Ayana, is a descendant of a forgotten race with this unique capability. Her abilities offer new ways to infiltrate restricted spaces and navigate the environment. Players can choose how they approach situations, utilizing Ayana’s powers to execute stealthy maneuvers or engage with enemies directly.
The “Shadow Merge” mechanic gives Ayana remarkable mobility. She can scale walls, access normally unreachable areas, pass through barriers, and use moving shadows as platforms to get around. This mechanic offers a wide range of gameplay possibilities, allowing players to explore different strategies.
Baby Robot Games explains that the innovative Shadow Merge mechanic was inspired by their love of stealth games such as Metal Gear Solid and Aragami. Shadows are traditionally used for concealment, so they experimented with the concept of merging with shadows to create a new dimension within the genre. Alejandro Marquez, game director at Baby Robot Games, spoke about the game’s creation and its Shadow Merge mechanic.
“Ereban: Shadow Legacy is our first game, and as could not be otherwise, is also our love letter to all those great stealth games we grew up with. Combining traditional stealth with the Shadow Merge mechanic and all its possibilities has been very challenging, but very fun to develop and play with too. We hope that players enjoy the game in which we poured our hearts for the last 5 years!”
