Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, a popular chess streamer, has been accused of cheating after breaking the Blitz record on Chess.com. This led to Magnus Carlsen, arguably the best chess player in the world, taking a dig at him on social media. Carlsen posted a picture of Nakamura losing a game due to a mistake with his pawn and bishop, which some argue could have been avoided by Nakamura given his status as a Grandmaster.
Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik also left a cheeky message on his Chess.com profile, hinting that the website is housing cheaters after the news of Nakamura breaking the record surfaced. Fans connected the dots and assumed that Kramnik was referring to Nakamura’s performance.
In response, Nakamura hit back at Carlsen by referencing the world champion’s question on Andrea and Alexandra Botez’s stream, where he asked how the knight moves. Nakamura said, “I know you don’t know how the knight moves, I was hoping you didn’t know how the pawn moves too!”
This recent wave of cheating allegations in the chess community has put Hiraku in hot waters. It will be interesting to see how he defends himself against the accusations made by Kramnik and Carlsen.
