Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Good? | GAME REVIEW

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is eyeing the RPG world like a storm. Following up on its predecessor, this sequel brings a refined open world, character customization, and action-packed combat.

But with its release just around the corner, on March 22nd, 2024. Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 shaping up to be a must-play for RPG enthusiasts?

Let’s dive into the previews and early details to see what we get.

A World Alive with Possibility

Dragon’s Dogma 2 takes you headfirst into a vibrant, living world. Gone are the same old copy-paste environments of the first game. Here, exploration is actually rewarding.

From skittering rabbits to territorial griffins, lush forests are alive with life. Dripping with sunshine, deserts stretch out before you, and crumbling ruins dot the landscape, inviting players to discover their secrets.

This is more than a world you visit on your quest; it is your home base too. It responds actively to your presence.

The system sends storms your way, and you have to run for cover or change your strategy.

The day and night cycles change enemy behavior, and some creatures are much more aggressive while cloaked in darkness. Each corner invites a moment of surprise, allowing for a real sense of discovery.

Claws Out: Combat Gets Even More Technical

Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t shy away from its complex combat system.

Vocations available to players range from the agile Strider, who dances among enemies, to the harrowing Mystic Knight, who carries giant greatswords.

There are intricate combos and weapon-specific techniques to learn in each vocation too. The battles themselves are a thrilling dance of offense and defense.

Enemies are surprisingly intelligent, reacting to your hits and taking advantage of weaknesses.

However, mastering the dodge and exploitation of enemy weaknesses becomes vital to survival

Pawns: Your AI Companions in Arms

Pawns are back in form as one of Dragon’s Dogma’s more unique elements. These AI comrades fight alongside you and provide invaluable support throughout the battle.

The Pawn system has been greatly enhanced. Now your pawns can carry your loot, stalk enemies ahead, and even scale mountains you can’t climb on your own.

However, Pawns can sometimes feel impersonal. They provide tactical benefits but lack the character and depth of a true companion.

But here is the clincher: you are not only able to create your own Pawns but also borrow Pawns from other players online. This “Pawn rental” system lets you tailor your party to specific challenges – sort of like a strategic layer to the game.

A Story that Takes a Backseat, But Doesn’t Disappoint

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an open-world experience where characters are developed over a tightly woven narrative. The story is decent but it is mainly set up for your adventures

But the world itself is filled with lore, and players who research item descriptions and environmental information will find an overflowing history and myth.

Ultimately, the story’s strength lies in how it empowers you to forge your own legend within this captivating world.

The Verdict: A Potential Open-World Gem

What we have seen thus far indicates Dragon’s Dogma 2 might be an excellent open-world RPG. We can’t say it’s a must-play until the game launches, but the previews look very promising indeed.

Dogma 2 is one for the watchlist due to its spectacular world layout, advanced fighting system, and tons of customization choices.

All RPG fans who are looking for a challenge and a world full of possibilities should mark their calendars for March 22.
