Call of Duty 2025: No Main Developer Announced Yet

The future of the Call of Duty franchise is currently in the spotlight as inside sources reveal that Call of Duty 2025 has not yet found a primary developer. This has sparked concern among fans, who fear that the game could face a troubled release, reminiscent of the issues surrounding Modern Warfare 3 in 2023.

It has been reported that Sledgehammer Games, originally slated to develop Call of Duty 2025, declined the project due to an aversion to serving as a “year two support studio.” Consequently, Treyarch may take over the development duties following their work on Call of Duty 2024. The gaming industry and its avid followers are eagerly monitoring the situation, awaiting further updates on the direction of this popular franchise.

Call of Duty 2025 Lacks a Principal Developer

The upcoming Call of Duty 2025 project was initially intended to be developed by Sledgehammer Games, but the studio reportedly declined the offer to avoid becoming a “year two support studio.” This leaves the game without a main developer, even though its release is only 20 months away. The situation appears to be reminiscent of the rumored 16-month development cycle for Sledgehammer’s Modern Warfare 3, lending credibility to those speculations.

Despite these concerns, it seems most Call of Duty installments have adequate development time. For example, Treyarch’s Call of Duty 2024 is said to have the longest development duration in the studio’s history. Additionally, other insiders have reported that Infinity Ward has been assigned to Call of Duty 2026, while Sledgehammer Games is slated to handle Call of Duty 2027.

At present, there is little information available about the premise of Call of Duty 2025. However, details about Call of Duty 2024 are starting to emerge as its release approaches. Recently, a dataminer purportedly disclosed Call of Duty 2024‘s launch weapon lineup. The upcoming game, suspected to be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, is rumored to be set in the early 1990s.

The Call of Duty series, a first-person shooter franchise, is published by Activision and created by various developers, including Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. Initially focused on World War 2, the franchise now encompasses modern and futuristic combat scenarios. The series remains extremely popular, primarily due to its multiplayer PvP and, more recently, the Warzone battle royale modes.
