Activision scales back support for Call of Duty’s DMZ significantly

With the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, the DMZ mode was also launched, but unfortunately that is coming to an end of sorts. This mode was in beta from its release with the goal of eventually having it available as an additional feature in the game.

Via a blog post, Activision has revealed that they are not scrapping the mode, but they are scaling it down. With the start of the first season next Wednesday, the DMZ mode will no longer be tied to the Battle Pass, ditto for progression regarding Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone content.

The DMZ mode will remain playable in its entirety through the Warzone section in COD HQ. However, the mode will not be integrated into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Warzone, thus creating that disconnect from progression. This also means that Urzikstan will not be among the maps.

Activision says they will take the lessons learned into further development of this gameplay style. Whether that will lead to anything remains to be seen, as it sounds like they are giving up on DMZ.
