Windows 12 could be released next year

New clues about Windows 12 have recently surfaced, with sources claiming that the new operating system could be released in 2024. An Intel executive continued that Windows will be updated over the next year, making a subtle allusion to the launch of this new version. In addition, it has been leaked that this new version would include several AI-related capabilities.

The idea that Windows 10 would be the last seems far behind Microsoft. Recall that at the end of 2021, Windows 11 arrived on our computers. Even in March last year, Redmond developers had already started working on Windows 12.

David Zinser, a senior Intel official and one of Microsoft’s most significant business partners, has recently made statements that have put Windows 12 back in the spotlight. Zinser claims 2024 will be a very exciting year due to a Windows 12 update.

Windows 12 could be released next year

Zinser has recently commented that, due to the Windows update, the next year, 2024, will be a wonderful year for all Microsoft customers. On the other hand, Zinser states that they still believe that the installed PC base needs to be refreshed because it is quite outdated, and we believe that next year, with Windows as a catalyst, could be the start of that. In turn, Zinser, at the Citi 2023 conference, was optimistic about how things will play out in 2024.

So, these statements are very intriguing at the outset because Microsoft already used the term upgrade to refer to Windows 11 before its official presentation. Moreover, this is not the first time that Intel has given clues about the arrival of Windows 12. Earlier this year, we saw leaked specifications of its new Meteor Lake processors, which would also be available next year with support for Microsoft’s new operating system.

On the other hand, even though Windows 11 is still a relatively new operating system, Microsoft has a history of releasing new operating systems quickly. For example, it took two years and three months to move from Windows 98 to Windows Me. In addition, we should note the same Windows Me was replaced by Windows XP just 13 months later.

A step forward for AI with Windows 12

It is important to note that very little information is available about the new features that Windows 12 may include. We only have clues about the operating system’s new features coming from Yusuf Mehdi. Mehdi, one of Microsoft’s top managers, gave clues some time ago in an interview where he pointed out that they had already made progress in some AI functions.

According to Mehdi, the company had already started to think that AI features should play a natural role in terms of user experience. Furthermore, he commented that they had already started to do so in the next major release of Windows 11 and will undoubtedly be deepened in Windows 12.
