Is The New Gate Going To Be Good? | ANIME REVIEW

User Rating: 7.9

The New Gate is an anime film loosely based on a popular isekai (another world) manga series. It’s about Shin, a gamer trapped in a virtual reality MMORPG called the New Gate. In this particular game, in case you are dead, you die in the real world. But after defeating the final boss, and not logging out, Shin is spooked to be transported 500 years into the now-real future of the game world.

Positives: A New Perspective on the Isekai Genre

Fans point out that The New Gate is a departure from the isekai genre, which is one of its strengths. Although it might sound like a typical locked-in-a-game situation (think Sword Art Online), things soon go off the deep end. Rather than being sucked into some internet world, Shin is transported into a real fantasy world, which is also the same world as the game he was playing, but centuries in advance of the game’s timeline.

This allows for an interesting mix of video game mechanics (such as stat menus and skill levels) and an actual fantasy world with a backstory and lore. Fans love how the show manages to balance these two aspects, making gamers feel familiar while maintaining a deep, immersive fantasy world.

Negatives: Slow Pacing and Inconsistent Art Style

While the first episode establishes a slick premise, some viewers found the pace a little too slow. It takes some time to set up the world and Shin’s brand new circumstances, but it does not have any action-packed sequences or cliffhanger endings that typically hook viewers in the first season of a brand new series.

There are also critics of the anime’s art. Sometimes the designs and proportions of the characters are inconsistent and distracting to viewers. But fans still hope the animation quality can improve – especially during the action scenes.

The Verdict: Cautious Optimism

In all, while New Gate season one wasn’t a blockbuster hit, there is reason for cautious optimism. Among fans of the source material, its original premise and world-building could be enough. To separate the series from other isekai anime, if the pacing and action pick up. In later episodes of potential future seasons.

The New Gate (for anime-only fans) might be worth breaking the three-episode rule. The series expects to continue building momentum. It will provide more emotional and beautiful moments later on. The series progresses in that manner. Manga fans are, however, cautiously optimistic that the adaptation will live up to the original material, particularly with the anticipated action scenes.
