Assassin’s Creed has become one of the few games that have created a solid legacy within the gaming community. However, after its recent releases which swayed away from the traditional Assassin’s Creed gameplay, fans haven’t been satisfied. Now, Ubisoft has released Assassin’s Creed Mirage which they said was the game that will push Assassin’s Creed back to its roots. So is Assassin’s Creed Mirage worth buying?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay
The game is definitely taking a step in the right direction. It abolished the XP system that Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins have adopted. This means that, like in the original Assassin’s Creed games, any enemy can be one-shotted with a hidden blade. There’s also the fact that the current gameplay focuses more on stealth. The eagle scouting option is also back to help you get that perfect angle to jump on your target.
However, it might not be exactly what you would expect. The gameplay is still rough and there can be improvements to make it seem like it is a “true” Assassin’s Creed game. Still, this is a step in the right direction. You can even bribe merchants to get through gates or start a riot to cause a distraction.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Story
Following the gameplay, the story of the series is something we have to look at next. Mirage is set in Baghdad during the Golden Age of Islam. Your character is named Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. He joins the Hidden Ones, a precursor to the Order of the Assassins, and fights against the Order of the Ancients.
Similar to the gameplay, Mirage’s story is rough but it does the job of taking the series in the right direction. Basim isn’t as interesting as Ezio and his story feels linear and a bit shorter. However, it actually feels like it was a safe choice. This is because the villains were “Okay” at most too. They weren’t like Haytham Kenway for example.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Graphics and Environment
Of course, with any Assassin’s Creed game comes beautiful graphics. The city of Baghdad might be the highlight of the game as it was very historically accurate. It’s a busy city with guards and civilians which might remind you of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. However, it’s not just Baghdad as there are other historical sites present within the game. One thing they did miss was that there wasn’t one amazing location like the Pyramids in Origin.
Personally, I think Mirage’s environment became good and refreshing was the fact that they focused on details once more. It wasn’t as big as the last three installments but it made stalking through a city much more interesting.
