The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has received a fitting pre-order bonus inspired by the game’s original Nintendo 64 release, but it is currently limited to Canada. Customers who pre-order the upcoming Switch 2 remake through EB Games Canada will receive a holographic slipcover designed to resemble the classic N64 packaging.
It’s a small but particularly nostalgic extra for longtime Zelda fans ahead of the remake’s November 5, 2026 release. Unfortunately, players outside Canada currently have no announced way to obtain it.
Ocarina of Time’s Pre-Order Bonus Recreates the N64 Box
Pre-orders for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are now available through multiple retailers, but EB Games Canada is offering its own exclusive incentive.
Customers who purchase the game through the retailer receive a holographic slipcover modeled after the original N64 box.
Ocarina of Time originally launched for Nintendo 64 in 1998, making the retro packaging a particularly appropriate bonus for players who experienced Link’s first 3D adventure when it was new.
The catch is its availability.
The slipcover is an EB Games Canada exclusive, meaning players in the United States, Europe, and other regions aren’t currently eligible for the bonus.
Nintendo Is Giving Ocarina of Time a Major Switch 2 Launch
The remake itself is getting considerably more attention than a simple re-release.
Nintendo is launching The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, with upgraded graphics and performance alongside features designed around the newer hardware.
Nintendo is also celebrating the release with dedicated hardware and accessories.
A Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console launches on October 29, one week before the game. A matching Pro Controller and carrying case are also part of the anniversary lineup.
Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are planned for 2027, although exact release dates for the figures have not yet been announced.
Together, the products make Ocarina of Time one of Nintendo’s most prominent Switch 2 releases since the console’s launch.
What’s New in the Ocarina of Time Remake?
Although the original Ocarina of Time remains playable through Nintendo Switch Online, the remake is being substantially updated for Switch 2.
Beyond the visual and performance improvements, the new version incorporates features that weren’t possible on the Nintendo 64.
Players can use motion controls for aiming with items such as the Slingshot, while the Switch 2 microphone is integrated with the game’s iconic Ocarina.
The remake also supports Zelda Notes, extending Nintendo’s companion functionality into the updated version.
These additions give the remake more than a visual overhaul while retaining the structure and identity of the 1998 adventure.
The Bonus Is Small, but Perfect for N64 Fans
Missing out on a cardboard slipcover is unlikely to change many players’ decision to buy the remake, but the regional exclusivity will inevitably disappoint collectors.
Regional pre-order bonuses aren’t unusual for Nintendo releases. The Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, for example, received a SteelBook in some territories that wasn’t offered in North America.
The Ocarina of Time slipcover follows a similar pattern. It doesn’t add anything to the game itself, but its recreation of the N64 packaging gives it obvious appeal as a display piece.
For players who grew up with the original release, it may be one of the more appropriate bonuses Nintendo’s classic Zelda adventure could receive.
Ocarina of Time Returns November 5
Remaking a game as influential as Ocarina of Time comes with considerable expectations.
Modernizing too much risks losing elements that made the original memorable, while remaining overly faithful could leave the remake feeling dated next to contemporary action-adventure games.
Nintendo has now shown gameplay from the Switch 2 version after initially keeping much of the project under wraps, offering a clearer look at how the classic has been modernized.
Players will be able to judge the result themselves when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. For Canadian collectors, pre-ordering through EB Games also offers a chance to make the physical release look a little more like it did back in 1998.
