The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will let returning players carry their existing save files, achievements, and trophies into the new edition when it launches on September 29, 2026. CD Projekt has confirmed that players upgrading from the current version won’t need to restart their adventures or repeat previously completed achievement and trophy requirements.
The Remastered edition will be offered as a free upgrade to existing owners on supported platforms, including Nintendo Switch players moving from the original release to the new Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Existing Witcher 3 Saves Will Work With Remastered
CD Projekt has confirmed that existing save files will be compatible with The Witcher 3 Remastered.
That means players with an unfinished playthrough can install the Remastered upgrade and continue from where they previously stopped rather than beginning Geralt’s journey again.
The compatibility is particularly useful for longtime players with extensive saves, including those who have already invested significant time into the base game and its expansions.
Existing owners on supported platforms will receive the Remastered upgrade at no additional cost. That also extends to players transitioning from the original Nintendo Switch version to The Witcher 3 Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2.
Achievements and Trophies Will Also Carry Over
Save files aren’t the only progression being preserved.
CD Projekt says achievement and trophy progress will carry over completely to The Witcher 3 Remastered. Achievements and trophies that players have already unlocked will remain completed, while unfinished requirements can continue progressing after the upgrade.
The developer has not announced a separate achievement or trophy list specifically for Remastered. As a result, returning players can continue using their existing progression instead of being asked to unlock the same awards for a second time.
For completionists, that means upgrading shouldn’t erase years of progress or require another full playthrough simply to restore a previously completed trophy or achievement collection.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Adds More Than Visual Upgrades
The Remastered edition isn’t limited to improving The Witcher 3’s graphics and technical presentation.
CD Projekt has also announced several gameplay and quality-of-life additions, including cross-platform mod support, improved quest tracking, immersive meditation, updated character animations, and a redesigned looting system.
Additional gameplay improvements are also planned.
Once Remastered arrives, CD Projekt intends for it to become the standard version of The Witcher 3 going forward rather than existing solely as a separate optional edition.
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine Are Included
The Witcher 3 Remastered package includes both of the game’s major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, alongside the base game.
Bundling the expansions gives new players access to the complete existing Witcher 3 storyline in a single package, while returning players can continue into either expansion using their transferred progression.
The complete package will carry a higher price because both expansions are included as standard.
Another major addition is planned for 2027. Songs of the Past will introduce the new Letten region and continue the story, with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine forming part of the complete package leading into the new content.
The Witcher 3 Returns Again on September 29
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally launched in 2015 before receiving its major current-generation update in 2022. CD Projekt then unveiled the Remastered edition during Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2026, promising another substantial round of technical and gameplay improvements.
The ability to retain saves, achievements, and trophies should make the September 29 upgrade considerably easier for existing players. Rather than choosing between the new features and an established playthrough, returning Witcher 3 players will be able to move into Remastered while keeping their existing progression intact.
