The Witcher 3: What Is Loot Merge?

Loot Merge is a new accessibility feature in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered that combines the drops from nearby defeated enemies into a single loot pool. Instead of searching every corpse after a large fight, you can loot one nearby body and collect the items dropped by the entire group.

The setting doesn’t increase the amount or quality of loot you receive. It simply makes collecting existing drops faster, making it particularly useful when fighting large groups or farming enemies repeatedly.

What Does Loot Merge Do?

With Loot Merge enabled, loot from nearby defeated enemies is combined.

For example, if Geralt kills a group of bandits, you would normally need to walk between the bodies and search each one individually. Loot Merge removes most of that repetitive work.

Interact with one of the nearby corpses, and its loot window will contain the items dropped by the other eligible enemies in the area.

This makes post-combat cleanup significantly faster, especially after encounters involving a large number of opponents.

It can also reduce the chance of accidentally leaving items behind because you overlooked a body or an enemy died slightly away from the rest of the group.

How to Enable Loot Merge

You can turn Loot Merge on or off from the Gameplay settings.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Gameplay.
  3. Scroll down to Enable Loot Merge.
  4. Select On to activate the feature.

If you prefer The Witcher 3’s original corpse-by-corpse looting system, return to the same option and switch it to Off.

Does Loot Merge Change Enemy Drops?

No. Loot Merge is a convenience feature rather than a loot bonus.

Enemies still drop their normal items. The setting simply consolidates nearby drops so you don’t need to interact with every corpse separately.

That means enabling Loot Merge doesn’t improve drop rates, provide additional items, or increase their value. It only reduces the time required to collect everything.

Loot Merge Is Useful for Hanse Base Farming

Loot Merge is particularly helpful when farming Hanse Bases, where Geralt can fight large numbers of enemies in a relatively small area.

These encounters can leave dozens of bodies behind. Without Loot Merge, collecting all of their equipment means stopping to search corpse after corpse.

With the feature enabled, nearby drops are merged together, dramatically reducing the amount of time spent looting after each fight.

That makes it especially convenient for players using Hanse Bases to collect equipment and earn money.

Should You Turn Loot Merge On?

For most players, Loot Merge is worth enabling if convenience is the priority.

It doesn’t alter combat or give Geralt better drops. Instead, it removes much of the repetitive interaction required after fighting groups of enemies.

Players who enjoy individually checking corpses can leave it disabled, but anyone farming Hanse Bases, clearing groups of bandits, or simply trying to move through the game more efficiently can save considerable time by switching Loot Merge on.
