Explore a new desert region, Roaring Sands, introduced in the latest expansion of Where Winds Meet. It hasn’t been long since its launch in November 2025 but it already saw free expansion this December 11, 2025. More than an additional map update, it also brings ancient mysteries and challenging encounters. Here’s what you should know about Where Winds Meet Roaring Sands expansion.
What Is Roaring Sands and When Does It Release?

Where Winds Meet officially launched Roaring Sands on December 11, 2025, following the game’s roadmap. This region sits beyond the far western edge of Kaifeng, presenting an eerie desert landscape with ruins and supernatural oddities. It is described as a place of ancient prophecies and legends refusing to fade. Alongside the expansion, there are other major additions including the River Master campaign and new bosses.
How the Two-Layer Lock System Works

While many are excited with this free expansion, they are also confuse on how its dual-gating mechanism works. To access Roaring Sands, you’ll have to pass the gated mechanism first. First, make sure you’ve enabled the region on your specific server or client version.
Even when live, you have to face in-game progression requirements to make your entry possible. If you’re a player on global server, the region may appear on the map with visible labels. However, approaching its direction will only led you to sandstorm barriers or invisible walls.
Don’t worry though as this isn’t a bug. It only means that the server hasn’t update and activate yet the Roaring Sands. After the patch window opens, new story chapters will automatically appears and make the desert accessible to qualifying characters.
Story Progression and Solo Level Requirements
Before you can enter the Roaring Sands, you have to meet two conditions simultaneously. First, you have to complete the appropriate main story chapter and achieve sufficient Solo Level. Currently, this desert expansion serves as a high-danger endgame zone, withholding you from accessing until you’re ready.
Also, the main story must progress to chapters near Kaifeng’s borders, including westward travel, caravan investigations, and frontier disappearances. These narrative threads will introduce you to the desert arc and provides context into the sands. Avoid skipping story beats or rushing through content as it may delay the unlock process.
Plus, Solo Level functions as a power gate to make sure you possess needed strength against desert threats. Your level may fall below the informal threshold if you’ve focused exclusively on main quests while ignoring side activities. Consider also the combat trials, mini-boss circuits, bounties, exploration shrines, and cultivation tasks for Solo Level gains.
The Roaring Sands Wayfarer and Map Unlock

Like other major regions in Where Winds Meet, Roaring Sands also features a Wayfarer. This is a cartographer NPC sitting at the east of Willowshade Village on a ridge overlooking the desert. The NPCs will help you unlock the complete desert map layout, including roads, landmarks, and fast travel points.
Before you can find and speak with the Wayfarer, you have to complete the desert-intro story first. It is useless to interact with this character without progression as it won’t respond properly. You’ll need to earn regional access first and switch to Solo Mode before initiating the dialogue.
Conclusion
A new thrilling adventure will unfold in Roaring Sands expansion of Where Winds Meet this December 11. Alongside the desert environment, it will also introduce ancient prophecies and legends, adding depth to the narrative. However, keep in mind the requirements first before trying to access this new zone.
