Prepare for a unique Encounter quest in Where Winds Meet with Faith Against Odds. This takes you on an unexpected journey, involving a captured monk and bandit in Buddha Fort. However, this is a hidden side quest requiring specific prerequisites before it can be triggered. So, here’s how you can start and finish the Faith Against Odds quest in Where Winds Meet.
Prerequisites: Unlocking Lion’s Roar Mystic Skill

You have to obtain the Lion’s Roar Mystic Skill before you can start the Faith Against Odds quest in Where Winds Meet. It’ll be essential not only for unlocking the quest but also for completing one of the key objectives. Before you can acquire this skill, you have to find and ring 4 copper bells across the Qinghe region.
These bells are located at General Shrine, Buddha Fort, Wraith Village’s Ruined Temple, and one additional location. After ringing all four bells, they will automatically add the Lion’s Roar Mystic Skill to your arsenal. Equip this skill before you start the quest since you will need it during a crucial battle.
After getting the Lion’s Roar, you must defeat the Buddha Fort Outpost by clearing all enemies in the area. It includes defeating 16 Rogue Monks and one elite enemy. Once you secured the outpost, go toward the camp to trigger the questline.
Starting Faith Against Odds Quest
Proceed traveling to the southern area of Buddha Fort with Boundary Stone after unlocking the Lion’s Roar and conquering Buddha Fort. Then, search for a watchtower where you’ll spot two monks, Tongchang and Tongbian, holding a prisoner. The quest automatically starts when you eavesdrop on their conversation regarding the captured Humble Monk.
Try changing the in-game time to late afternoon if the quest doesn’t trigger immediately upon arriving at the location. Sometimes, the time-specific mechanic is necessary to activate the encounter. Also, wait until the bandits discuss their plan to burn the monk alive to see whether the quest will initiate.
Rescuing the Humble Monk

After starting the quest, you have to intervene and stop the 2 bandits from harming the Humble Monk. Engage in combat and defeat the bandits, Tongchang and Tongbian, before climbing up the watchtower. You’ll find the monk being held captive there so untie him to free him from his bonds.
The twist here is that the Humble Monk won’t thank you for rescuing him. Rather, he’ll get disappointed that you interrupted his dharma lecture towards the bandits. Instead of fleeing to safety, he will insist that you read the Three Thousand Queries of Dharma to defeat the bandits.
Confronting the Bandit Leader

Zhao Maokang, the bandit leader, will arrive on the scene after a brief cutscene. You’ll have to beat him in a battle and use the Lion’s Roar skill during the confrontation. Make sure you’ve equipped the skill and use it while in combat against the bandit leader.
After defeating him and his associates, talk with the Humble Monk again. Ask him for a copy of the Three Thousand Queries of Dharma where he’ll direct you to Find Bu Gan at the Bamboo Abode docks.
Obtaining the Sacred Text

Finally, you have to travel the docks near General’s Shrine in the Bamboo Abode area. Then, use the Northern Bamboo Grove Boundary Stone once unlocked to travel to your destination faster. Find Bu Gan, the bookseller NPC, and talk with him about a copy of the Three Thousand Queries of Dharma.
He should provide you with the sacred text, marking the completion of your Faith Against Odds quest. You’ll receive a copy of the Dharma book alongside the following:
-
- 15,000 Coins
- 15,000 Character EXP
- 100 Enlightenment Points
- 150 Jade Fish
Conclusion
Faith Against Odds quest offers a fun gameplay experience with its twist in Where Winds Meet. However, remember to unlock and equip the Lion’s Roar skill before heading to Qinghe and starting the quest. While the combat is easy, it is still recommended to prepare for the encounters during the task.
