RuneScape is one of the older multiplayer online role-playing games with an impressive fishing system. One of its coveted fishing tools includes the Dragon Harpoon, which offers players significant advantages with 20% increased catch rate. Moreover, you can upgrade this to superior variants like infernal or crystal for enhanced performance. So, here’s a guide on how you can get this Dragon Harpoon in RuneScape.

Primary Drop Sources: Wyrms and Shadow Wyrms

The most effective and reliable method to get the Dragon Harpoon is by fighting against Wyrms. These are located in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon and have variants to challenge players. You can either combat Regular Wyrms or Shadow Wyrms, depending on your desired drop rate.

Regular Wyrms only require level 62 Slayer to kill, with a Dragon Harpoon drop rate at 1/10,000 under normal circumstances. However, killing Wyrms as part of the Slayer task will improve this rate to 1/2,000. This makes the Slayer tasks the preferred method of players during harpoon hunting.

On the other hand, Shadow Wyrms offers the Dragon Harpoon at a more consistent rate of 1/2,000 regardless of task status. Yet, these require a higher level and more combat prowess to defeat. It is more challenging than the regular Wyrms you’ll encounter.

Moreover, keep in mind that Wyrms were added as the primary source during the game update in January 2019. Previously, this Harpoon was exclusively available on Chambers of Xeris, hence the adjustment to make it more accessible.

Alternative Acquisition Methods

Although the Wyrms are the primary source for harpoon, you may also occasionally find it through other means. One of them is the Chambers of Xeric, but at a lower drop rate of 1/8,000, making it a less efficient farming method.

Another is the Grand Exchange, which offers a practical solution to players preferring purchase over harpoon farming. Currently, players can purchase this harpoon for around 3.5 million coins, which costs quite a lot. However, this has a daily buy limit of 5 with a daily trading volume of approximately 852 units. Due to this, it might affect the availability of Harpoon for potential buyers.

Requirements and Combat Statistics

You must meet specific skill requirements to effectively use the dragon harpoon. For this, it requires level 61 Fishing while wielding the harpoon as a weapon requires 60 Attack. With this, it makes sure you have enough expertise to access the enhanced abilities of the harpoon.

During combat, the Dragon Harpoon functions similarly to a dragon dagger but operates one tick slower. It provides you with +38 stab attack bonus and +32 slash attack bonus as a combat weapon. Moreover, you can store the harpoon in a tackle box for inventory management during fishing expeditions.

With this weapon, you’ll have multiple combat styles available, from stab, slash, lunge, and other defensive options. Each of these provides different experience distributions as well as combat bonuses. Although it is designed for fishing, its combat capabilities remain useful in certain situations.

Special Attack and Upgrade Paths

Ultimately, the special attack “Fishstabber” grants a visible +3 boost to Fishing level, consuming all of the players’ special attack energy. Using this boost will significantly improve catch rate while in intensive fishing sessions. However, it requires you to wield the weapon to meet the 60 Attack requirement.

Also, take note that the effectiveness of special attacks diminishes at higher fishing levels. It won’t gain any benefit when used at level 99 Fishing. It is best to use during levels 61-96, where you can take advantage of the full +3 boost.

In addition, the harpoon serves as a great foundation for two significant upgrades. You can combine it with a smouldering stone to create an Infernal Harpoon, granting a 1/3 chance to automatically cook fish. Moreover, they can also craft Crystal Harpoon with 120 crystal shards and a crystal tool seed.

Conclusion

To get Dragon Harpoon in RuneScape, you’ll need to prepare for combat against Wyrms in Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. Participating in a Slayer task while fighting regular Wyrms is your best chance to secure the harpoon. On the other hand, you may also fight Shadow Wyrms or search the Chambers of Xeric for it. However, you can also purchase it from the Grand Exchange if you have extra money to spend.
