You can become a Mangler in Warzone’s Haunted Hollow by completing the Research Center EMF Reader Easter Egg and using the Mutant Injection it rewards. The Easter Egg requires you to find an EMF Reader, grab a weapon equipped with a Thermal Optic, and hunt down the same ghost three times inside the Research Center.
Once completed, you’ll receive several rewards, including the Mutant Injection. Activating it temporarily transforms you into the Mangler from Zombies, complete with its cannon, sickle melee attack, and powerful sprint attack.
Step 1: Find the EMF Reader
The first item you need is the EMF Reader.
Head to the building southeast of the Research Center and enter its server room on the bottom floor. The EMF Reader can be found inside.
Pick it up and it will occupy your Tactical Slot. Keep it equipped and make your way back to the Research Center.
You’ll need the reader throughout the Easter Egg because it acts as your primary tool for tracking the ghost’s location.
Step 2: Get a Weapon With a Thermal Optic
The next requirement is a gun equipped with a Thermal Optic.
You can bring a suitable weapon through your own loadout, but Haunted Hollow also provides one inside the Research Center.
Look for a Voyak KT-3 on the top floor. It’s located toward the center of the building’s southern section, near a whiteboard.
The weapon already has the Thermal Optic you need, so pick it up if you didn’t bring an appropriate gun.
Don’t skip this step. The EMF Reader helps you determine which room contains the ghost, but the Thermal Optic is what allows you to actually identify it.
Step 3: Track the Ghost With the EMF Reader
With both items ready, start searching the Research Center while holding the EMF Reader.
Its display changes depending on your distance from the ghost, showing:
- Low
- Medium
- High
Follow the readings as they increase. You’re looking for the EMF Reader to reach 9.99, indicating that you’ve entered the room where the spirit is hiding.
Once you’re close enough and the reading reaches High, the room will suddenly go dark. That’s your signal to switch from the EMF Reader to your Thermal Optic.
Step 4: Find the Ghost With the Thermal Optic
Aim through the Thermal Optic and search the darkened room.
The ghost doesn’t necessarily appear as a conventional human-shaped spirit. Instead, it can disguise itself as a random object surrounded by a particle effect.
Scan the room carefully through the thermal sight until you identify the unusual object, then shoot it.
Hitting the ghost successfully causes it to relocate somewhere else in the Research Center.
You’ll then need to pull the EMF Reader back out and begin tracking it again.
Step 5: Shoot the Ghost Three Times
You need to successfully locate and shoot the spirit three times to complete the Easter Egg.
The basic loop is straightforward:
- Follow the EMF Reader until it reaches 9.99.
- Wait for the room to go dark.
- Switch to your Thermal Optic.
- Find the object with the ghostly particle effect.
- Shoot it.
- Repeat until you’ve hit the ghost three times.
There is a time limit once you enter the ghost’s room.
If you take too long to identify it, you’ll get hit with a jump scare and the spirit will relocate. You’ll then have to track its new position with the EMF Reader and try again.
Working quickly once the lights go out is therefore the most important part of the puzzle.
How to Get the Mutant Injection
After successfully finding and shooting the ghost three times, the Easter Egg is complete.
You’ll receive multiple rewards, with the most important being the Mutant Injection.
Pick it up and activate it when you’re ready to transform.
How the Mangler Transformation Works
Using the Mutant Injection temporarily turns your Operator into a Mangler, bringing several of the Zombies enemy’s abilities into Warzone.
While transformed, you can use the Mangler Cannon for ranged attacks or get close to enemies and attack them with the Mangler’s sickle.
You can also use its aggressive sprint attack to charge opponents and knock them down.
The transformation only lasts for a limited period, so it’s best to activate the Mutant Injection when you can immediately take advantage of the Mangler’s extra firepower rather than wasting its duration moving around the map.
The Research Center Easter Egg is therefore worth completing even beyond the novelty of becoming a Zombies enemy. Once you’ve secured the EMF Reader and a Thermal-equipped weapon, all that’s left is tracking the spirit three times and surviving long enough to put the resulting Mutant Injection to use.
