Activision has revised its Call of Duty: Warzone Carry Forward plans, confirming that legacy Weapon Camos will not remain available when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 begins. The company initially said previously earned camos would transfer before updating its announcement to remove them from the list of supported content.
The broader Carry Forward system is still planned for Warzone, with Operators, Skins, and Weapon Blueprints from several recent Call of Duty games remaining compatible.
Legacy Weapon Camos Won’t Carry Forward
Activision originally detailed Warzone’s updated Carry Forward system on September 24, outlining which content players could continue using following the launch of Modern Warfare 4.
The initial announcement included legacy Weapon Camos.
Activision subsequently updated the information and apologized for incorrectly stating that camos earned in previous games would remain usable during Modern Warfare 4’s first season.
As a result, players won’t be able to equip their previously unlocked legacy camos on returning weapons.
That’s a notable distinction because some of these cosmetics can require substantial amounts of time to unlock. The correction has consequently prompted criticism from players who spent time completing camouflage challenges with the expectation that their rewards could continue appearing in Warzone.
What Will Carry Forward in Warzone?
Despite the change to Weapon Camos, Activision isn’t abandoning Carry Forward entirely.
Content currently confirmed to remain available includes Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapon Blueprints from:
- Modern Warfare 2
- Modern Warfare 3
- Black Ops 6
- Black Ops 7
That means players can continue using a significant portion of their existing cosmetic collections even though legacy Weapon Camos are excluded.
The distinction is particularly important for Weapon Blueprints. Those remain part of Carry Forward under the current plans, while standalone camos unlocked for legacy weapons do not.
Warzone Is Also Getting an Operator Skin Toggle
Carry Forward isn’t the only major cosmetic change arriving alongside Modern Warfare 4.
Warzone will introduce an Operator Skin toggle with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.
Enabling the option limits which character cosmetics a player sees, replacing legacy appearances with Modern Warfare 4-era Operator Skins from that player’s perspective.
The feature is intended for players who prefer the visual direction of Modern Warfare 4 and don’t want older crossover or unconventional character skins appearing during Warzone matches.
Players who enjoy Warzone’s broader cosmetic selection can leave the option disabled.
Xbox Players Get a Special M4 Blueprint Variant
Modern Warfare 4 will also feature a platform-specific cosmetic bonus for Xbox players.
All Modern Warfare 4 players can receive the Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint, while the Xbox version comes with a special variant featuring a translucent green design.
The weapon’s transparent exterior exposes parts of its internal construction beneath the green finish, giving it an appearance inspired by classic Xbox hardware.
The design follows the aesthetic of other Xbox anniversary products, including special-edition consoles, controllers, and accessories.
Modern Warfare 4 Is Taking a More Grounded Approach to Cosmetics
Cosmetics have become a significant talking point surrounding Modern Warfare 4.
Infinity Ward has previously indicated that the new game will favor more grounded cosmetics and collaborations that fit its setting. It’s still unclear how broadly that philosophy will be applied.
Operator Skins are an obvious part of the change, particularly with Warzone’s new visibility toggle, but the studio hasn’t fully detailed how the approach will affect Weapon Camos, Blueprints, and other cosmetic categories.
Call of Duty has increasingly experimented with elaborate weapon and character designs in recent releases, making Modern Warfare 4’s direction a noticeable shift.
For now, Warzone players planning their cosmetic collections around Modern Warfare 4 should expect legacy Operators, Skins, and Weapon Blueprints to remain supported through Carry Forward. Previously earned Weapon Camos, however, are no longer part of those plans following Activision’s correction.
