Wardens of Avalon has received new gameplay footage showcasing its central mission: reclaiming a corrupted kingdom and rebuilding Camelot from the ruins. Developer Runes Studio and publisher The Arcade Crew revealed the footage on September 2, 2026, highlighting the action RPG’s combat, exploration, survival crafting, settlement building, and classless character system. Wardens of Avalon is scheduled for PC in 2027, with both solo play and online co-op for up to four players.
The game presents a darker interpretation of Arthurian legend, casting players as members of the newly formed Twilight Knights and tasking them with restoring the fallen Kingdom of Avalon.
Explore Avalon and Reclaim the Fallen Kingdom
Restoring Avalon requires players to venture beyond the safety of their settlement and into lands overtaken by corruption.
These expeditions combine exploration and action RPG combat with resource gathering. Avalon contains handcrafted dungeons populated by monsters, valuable materials, and bosses, with defeating enemies opening the way to new areas of the kingdom.
The resources gathered during these journeys are then brought home and invested into rebuilding the player’s fiefdom.
That creates the core loop behind Wardens of Avalon: explore the ruined kingdom, fight its inhabitants, collect resources, and use those materials to restore Camelot.
Bosses also serve as major obstacles to progression. Players will need to prepare their characters and improve their equipment before confronting the more powerful enemies standing between them and unexplored parts of Avalon.
Rebuilding Camelot Is Part of Progression
Base building isn’t separate from the adventure. Developing the fiefdom is directly connected to progression through the wider kingdom.
Resources recovered during expeditions can be used to expand, rebuild, and defend the settlement. As development continues, players can establish additional districts and gain access to new facilities.
Available facilities include:
- Workshops
- Blacksmiths
- Druids
- Herborists
- Apothecaries
The new footage demonstrates how these settlement systems connect to the larger objective of bringing Avalon back from its ruined state.
Players won’t simply be improving a personal base between missions. The settlement represents the gradual restoration of the kingdom, with exploration providing the materials needed to continue its development.
Wardens of Avalon Uses a Classless Character System
Wardens of Avalon also avoids locking its Twilight Knights into conventional RPG classes.
Instead, players can shape their character through equipment, abilities, and their preferred combat style. More importantly, builds aren’t intended to be permanent.
The oath system allows players to break existing oaths and swear new ones, providing an opportunity to adjust their setup for different situations.
That flexibility could become particularly useful before difficult encounters. Rather than spending an entire playthrough committed to one class, players can change their approach based on the enemies or bosses they’re preparing to face.
Solo and Four-Player Online Co-Op Supported
Everything from exploring Avalon to rebuilding the fiefdom can be tackled alone, but Wardens of Avalon also supports online co-op for up to four players.
A full group can include the host and three additional Twilight Knights. Players can explore dungeons, fight monsters, gather resources, and develop the kingdom together.
Co-op extends to defending the settlement as well. The fiefdom can come under attack, requiring players to work together to repel threats while protecting the progress they’ve made rebuilding Avalon.
The result is a gameplay structure designed to support either a traditional solo action RPG experience or a cooperative campaign centered on exploration, combat, crafting, and settlement management.
Wardens of Avalon Is Coming to PC in 2027
Wardens of Avalon is being developed by Runes Studio and published by The Arcade Crew, the indie publishing division of Dotemu. The publisher’s catalog also includes titles such as Abyssus, Drop Duchy, Blazing Chrome, and Infernax.
The newly revealed gameplay provides a clearer picture of how Runes Studio is combining several systems within its take on Arthurian fantasy. Dungeon exploration feeds resource gathering, resources drive settlement development, and rebuilding Camelot opens the path toward restoring the wider kingdom.
Wardens of Avalon is currently scheduled to launch on PC in 2027, with solo play and four-player online co-op available as players attempt to reclaim the corrupted lands and rebuild Avalon.
