Liquid Frost is a Deep North crafting material in Valheim made by processing Ice inside a Frigid Kiln. Every Liquid Frost requires five Ice, so farming the material efficiently comes down to gathering large amounts of Ice and running multiple Frigid Kilns simultaneously.
Ice is abundant throughout the Deep North, with frozen shorelines, ponds, and enemies providing several ways to stockpile it. Once you have enough, you can return to your base and begin converting it into Liquid Frost.
How to Get Ice in Valheim
The most straightforward source of Ice is the frozen coastline throughout the Deep North biome.
Travel to the shore of one of the biome’s islands and look for sheets of ice between the beach and open water. Equip a pickaxe and break these frozen surfaces to produce individual Ice shards.
You can then collect the shards and take them back to your Frigid Kiln.
However, mining frozen shorelines comes with an obvious hazard: you’re destroying the surface underneath you.
If you break too much ice at once, you can end up in the water.
How to Safely Farm Ice From Frozen Shores
Start by mining the ice closest to solid ground rather than walking deep onto the frozen surface.
Keeping a boat nearby is also useful when harvesting larger stretches of coastline.
Individual Ice shards float if they fall into the ocean, so they aren’t necessarily lost. The problem is retrieving them.
Jumping into freezing water consumes stamina, and running out while swimming can quickly turn a resource-gathering trip into a corpse run.
For that reason, prioritize Ice that can be collected from land and avoid creating large gaps between yourself and the shoreline.
Mine Frozen Ponds for Safer Ice
Frozen ponds provide another source of Ice and can be more convenient than harvesting along the coast.
Because you’re not constantly dealing with deep water, you can mine these areas without worrying as much about shards dropping somewhere dangerous.
If you encounter frozen ponds while exploring the Deep North, they’re worth harvesting even when Liquid Frost isn’t your immediate priority. Since each finished unit requires multiple pieces of Ice, building a large reserve saves additional gathering trips later.
Deep North Enemies Can Drop Ice
Mining isn’t the only way to obtain Ice.
Some enemies found across the Deep North surface can also drop the material when defeated. Skeletons and Greydwarves are among the enemies that may provide Ice.
These drops aren’t necessarily the fastest method for dedicated farming, but they add to your supply while you’re exploring or fighting through the biome.
Combining enemy drops with shoreline and pond mining is an efficient way to return from each Deep North expedition with as much Ice as possible.
How to Make Liquid Frost
Once you’ve collected enough Ice, return to your base and use a Frigid Kiln.
The conversion rate is:
5 Ice = 1 Liquid Frost
Interact with the loading port at the back of the Frigid Kiln and insert your Ice.
After the kiln finishes processing it, Liquid Frost appears from the output side.
The system works similarly to Valheim’s other kiln-based production chains, making your available Ice supply and number of processing stations the main limitations on production speed.
How to Farm Liquid Frost Faster
If you need a large amount of Liquid Frost, build multiple Frigid Kilns.
One kiln can only process resources so quickly, whereas several operating at once let you convert a large Ice stockpile in parallel.
A simple farming loop is:
- Travel to the Deep North.
- Mine Ice from frozen shorelines and ponds.
- Collect additional Ice dropped by enemies.
- Return to your base with a large stockpile.
- Load several Frigid Kilns simultaneously.
- Collect the finished Liquid Frost.
- Repeat as necessary.
Since five pieces of Ice are consumed for every Liquid Frost produced, gathering Ice in bulk before returning home is generally more efficient than making frequent trips with small amounts.
Consider Temporarily Dismantling Your Frost Foundry
If you’re short on the materials needed to build additional Frigid Kilns, your existing Frost Foundry can provide a temporary solution.
Dismantle the Frost Foundry and use the refunded building materials to construct another Frigid Kiln. This lets you increase Liquid Frost production while you’re still building your initial supply.
Once you’ve processed enough Ice, dismantle the extra kiln if necessary and rebuild the Frost Foundry.
This approach is particularly useful when you’re first progressing through Deep North crafting and don’t yet have enough resources to maintain every production station simultaneously.
The Frost Foundry becomes important for crafting Deep North armor, so you’ll ultimately want it rebuilt. Until then, prioritizing several Frigid Kilns can significantly reduce the time needed to produce your first large batch of Liquid Frost.
