Take-Two Hints at Big Expectations for GTA 6 Online

Take-Two Interactive has offered another potential clue about the future of GTA 6 Online, with CEO Strauss Zelnick telling investors that the company expects to sustain its increased financial scale beyond the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. While neither Take-Two nor Rockstar Games has formally detailed GTA 6’s online component, the publisher’s latest financial outlook suggests it expects substantial recurring business after the initial game arrives.

The comments came as part of Take-Two’s latest earnings discussion, where the company also raised its financial expectations following what Zelnick described as exceptional GTA 6 pre-orders.

Take-Two Raises Its Financial Outlook

Take-Two now expects approximately $8.2 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2027, an increase from its previous projection of $8 billion.

GTA 6 is naturally expected to play a major role in that performance. However, Zelnick also looked beyond the game’s initial launch, saying Take-Two expects to maintain its new level of scale while generating strong cash flows and continuing to deliver returns for shareholders.

That longer-term outlook is notable because sales of GTA 6 itself will inevitably be concentrated most heavily around its launch window. Maintaining significantly elevated bookings beyond that period would require Take-Two’s broader portfolio—and potentially GTA 6’s post-launch ecosystem—to continue generating substantial revenue.

An expanded successor to GTA Online would be an obvious part of that equation, although Take-Two has not explicitly confirmed that Zelnick’s comments were referring to GTA 6 Online.

GTA 6 Online Still Hasn’t Been Officially Detailed

Despite the enormous success of the current GTA Online, Rockstar has remained quiet about how multiplayer will work in the next generation of Grand Theft Auto.

The company’s public focus has instead remained on GTA 6 itself and its single-player experience. There has been no formal announcement explaining whether a new GTA Online will launch alongside GTA 6, arrive later, operate as a separate product, or use another distribution model entirely.

That leaves several major questions unanswered, including whether Rockstar will continue using the GTA Online name or introduce a new identity tied more directly to Vice City.

For now, names such as “Vice City Online” remain purely speculative.

Recurring Revenue Could Be Crucial After GTA 6 Launches

Take-Two’s comments do not constitute an announcement of GTA 6 Online, but the company’s emphasis on sustaining its financial scale makes Rockstar’s long-term plans particularly important.

The existing GTA Online demonstrates how valuable an ongoing Grand Theft Auto multiplayer platform can become. Instead of relying entirely on initial game purchases, a live online component can generate revenue over a much longer period through continued updates and in-game spending.

A similar strategy surrounding GTA 6 could give Take-Two a way to extend the financial impact of the game’s launch well beyond its first few months.

However, exactly how Rockstar intends to monetize the next GTA Online remains unknown. Take-Two has not confirmed whether it will be included with GTA 6, sold separately, offered through a premium model, or eventually made available as a standalone experience.

Rockstar Is Keeping Its GTA 6 Plans Close

Take-Two and Rockstar have been deliberate about how much information they release regarding GTA 6, and that approach appears unlikely to change for its multiplayer component.

That means investors may receive broad financial expectations before players receive concrete details about how GTA 6 Online actually works. Zelnick’s latest remarks provide another indication that Take-Two sees GTA 6 as more than a one-time sales event, but they stop short of revealing exactly what will follow the game’s initial release.

Until Rockstar makes an official announcement, the structure, release timing, pricing, and even branding of GTA 6’s online experience remain unknown. What is increasingly clear is that Take-Two expects the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 to establish a substantially larger business that the company intends to maintain well into the future.
