Should You Play R.E.P.O.? | GAME REVIEW

R.E.P.O is an instantly rising game title in the world of co-op horror games. Some say it really stands out for its scary gameplay while still making it chaotically fun. So, here’s a R.E.P.O review to know what you should expect from it.

Gameplay: Chaos, Physics, and Questionable Decision-Making

It is really simple to play R.E.P.O due to Semiwork’s easy work on the game’s core gameplay loop. All you need is to lead your five-player team to locate valuable objects throughout the facility. After that, you’ll have to load them onto a cart before extracting them as you avoid the nightmarish shadow creatures.

Also, this game is distinctive from other similar titles since it is mainly committed to physics-based interaction. So when objects are heavy, they actually feel heavy and require teamwork to move them efficiently. You can see a blend of horror and slapstick comedy with the physics system in play.

The multiplayer experience really brings out the fun from endless possible scenarios that may happen in the game. From trying to move a grand piano while having your teammates scream and get chased by monsters. It’ll be unhinged and chaotic for the whole team in the entire playing session.

Monsters: Unique Nightmares Around Every Corner

But one thing this R.E.P.O review is giving them credit for is the creature design. Some horror games tend to only have a small enemy pool available. But in R.E.P.O, they feature a diverse cast by equipping them with different behaviors and appearances. Some thrive in darkness while others actively hunt you down the facility. Also, a few enemies were also designed to sabotage your thoroughly laid plans.

With all these, R.E.P.O doesn’t actually let you compete defenselessly. There are also weapons for purchase available to help you fight against the horrors of the gameplay. Definitely, they’ll have to work extra with their strategies to pass through missions greatly.

The Extraction Process: A Test of Nerves

Real tension pops out once you’ve gained enough valuables and reached your quota. You’ll have to carefully move your cart onto a platform which activates after a short countdown. Make sure to avoid standing on the platform once it activates to prevent living a short life. This mechanic is really what sets up one of the most intense moments in the game.

Once they extracted all the items, they must sprint back to the truck and complete their escape plan. However, expect the facility’s inhabitants to become extra aggressive during this time of the game. Yet, the final dash keeps anticipation high for each run. It can swiftly change the tide of the game even at the very last second.

The Downsides: Room for Improvement

It’s good as seen in this R.E.P.O review but it doesn’t mean already that it’s perfect. In fact, R.E.P.O has some downsides that many players hope to get fixed. One of them was the limitation on public matchmaking since there was no system available. So if you’re a single player, you’ll have to join platforms like Discord and such.

Although, this can’t be said as a deal-breaker, it’ll be better for everyone’s interest to have it open to solo players. Moreover, there were also some occasional bugs and technical issues which are considered normal for early access titles.

Final Verdict: A Fresh Take on Co-op Horror

Can they make a hit in the competitive horror gaming scene as early as now? Well, this R.E.P.O review appreciated everything they were certain to offer to players and saw its shortcomings. A lot of potential in this game actually makes many most excited to try on its physics-based mechanics.
