Should You Play Limbus Company? | GAME REVIEW

Strategy and lore with gacha elements? If you’re up for this type of games, you may have heard of Limbus Company already. This game is Project Moon’s latest release in the Lobotomy Corporation series. It’s a turn-based strategy and gacha game that’s largely free-to-play (F2P), with a heavy and dark storyline. In this Limbus Company game review, let’s find out if it’s worth a try!

Story and Setting

As mentioned, Limbus Company has a very interesting narrative that is also one of its strengths. In this game, you are Dante, a mysterious figure with a clock for a head. You lead a group known as “Sinners” through a grim, dystopian city ruled by wealth. Your mission involves collecting Golden Boughs, which are powerful devices left by the fallen Lobotomy Corporation.

Project Moon’s previous games in the Lobotomy Corporation also had deep lore that runs throughout the series. They’ve done it before and they’ve done it well, so if you already had the experience of playing Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina, you’ll most likely be familiar with Limbus Company’s storyline.

While the well-crafted plot and rich storytelling are its strengths, the weakness in Limbus Company’s narrative focus is that it’s not as good as a stand-alone. Newcomers who don’t want to play the first two games in the series may be lost or confused in navigating Limbus Company’s lore.

Combat System

Limbus Company’s battle system also makes it distinct from others. It is a bit complex especially for those who are just starting with the game. However, once you get the hang of the basics, it should be easy to master.

The main mechanics is chaining attacks from the Sinners and creating “Sin Resonance” from different Sin type combos. These combinations can unleash a lot of power especially when you’re battling difficult bosses.

Additionally, there’s the EGO system that lets characters use special abilities. The complex part is that overusing these abilities can backfire and lead to “EGO Corrosion”. Characters with EGO Corrosion will be able to attack both enemies and allies.

Gacha System and F2P Experience

This Limbus Company game review found the gacha mechanics surprisingly fair. The game provides generous amounts of Lunacy (summoning currency) through story progression and events. The rewards players would pull in the gacha will be in two main types. First are “Identities” which are different versions of the characters. The other one are special EGO equipment.

The gacha rates are reasonable, with a 2.9% chance for top-tier Identities and guaranteed 2-star characters in every ten pulls. It also is generous enough with resources to perform multiple summons, and employs the pity system to give players sure chances of obtaining high-rarity rewards.

Free-to-play players can build competitive teams without feeling pressured to spend money. Additionally, the gacha for Limbus Company feels less predatory than others due to its lower tier rewards still being viable. Thus, players are not necessarily encouraged to chase the highest-tier items. However, the paid Battle Pass offers good value for those willing to invest money.

Visual and Audio Presentation

Another thing we’ll look at in this Limbus Company game review is its art style and audio presentation. The game features amazing 2D visuals that give off some Darkest Dungeon vibes. The character designs and combat animations are also really detailed and give players a great visual experience.

Alll voice acting is done in Korean, so some players may want the usual English dub option. However, the quality of the voice acting, game soundtrack, and SFX are all consistently high and add to the game’s atmosphere.

Conclusion

We hope that this Limbus Company game review provided you with what you need to know to decide whether to play the game. If you like dark fantasy and complex narratives, RPGs with strategic combat, unique art direction, and an actually F2P-friendly gacha game, Limbus Company might be for you!
