The developers behind Rematch have confirmed a massive new patch is underway, targeting core issues, community demands, and long-term goals. With over one million copies sold in its opening weekend, Rematch has quickly carved out a place among the season’s biggest hits. A strong mix of team-based gameplay, high-pressure moments, and mechanical depth has set it apart from the usual football-inspired experiences.
Rematch Patch Update to Prioritize Crossplay and Fixes (Rematch Update)
Since launch, the Rematch team has rolled out nine hotfixes, but now a more substantial patch is coming. Crossplay is currently the top priority, enabling players from different platforms to squad up and compete. However, developers are also working on high-priority bug fixes and identifying unintended behaviors, particularly mechanics like the “Dolphin Dive” exploit.
This movement-based exploit allows players to spam the outfield dive to catch up with attackers too easily, breaking the intended balance of stamina use and positioning. A short-term fix is planned for the upcoming patch, but developers are also crafting a longer-term redesign to address the root cause without removing all the skill-based upside of the move.
Future Content: Clubs, Tournaments, and AI Game Modes
Looking beyond bug fixes, the team revealed a roadmap split into four categories: core gameplay depth, social systems, competitive play systems, and casual features. Among the highlights are a tournament system aimed at both competitive and social players. These tournaments will give players a new goal outside ranked matches, with matchmaking and scheduling features that promote spontaneous team building.
Meanwhile, the long-term vision includes a club creation system tied to real-world cities and locations. This allows players to represent their hometown or favorite region and participate in regional competitions. AI-based game modes are also being explored to make the game more welcoming for players who prefer offline or non-competitive environments.
Ball Physics and Player Strategy Under Review
Another area of focus is the tuning of the in-game ball. Developers described the ball as a “character” itself, with physics carefully calibrated to support both realism and satisfying gameplay. Adjustments to friction, drag, bounce, and momentum were made throughout development to strike the right balance between control and chaos.
The devs also noted that high-skill strategies are starting to take shape across the player base, including shots like the “blade shot” and movement options like the “ify slide.” Internally, the team is analyzing which of these should be embraced and which ones require tuning.
Tackling, Goalkeeper Mechanics, and Game Feel (Rematch Update)
The Rematch team has heavily iterated on core roles like the goalkeeper. Originally left out, the goalie is now a key gameplay pillar, meant to feel like a “final boss” defending the net. Tackling and dribbling also received significant attention, with systems built around vulnerability and risk-reward to encourage teamwork and quick passing.
Volley mechanics are the heart of the game’s identity. They represent the feeling of individual greatness, team synergy, and competitive tension all at once. Whether a bicycle kick or a pinpoint low shot, the volley defines Rematch’s gameplay DNA.
