Netflix is reportedly moving forward with a live-action adaptation of Persona, according to a new report from Variety. While the streaming service has yet to officially announce the project, the report claims the television series is already in development with an established creative team and multiple production companies attached.
Report Details the Production Team
According to Variety, Christopher Monfette is attached as the series’ writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
The report also states that Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood will serve as executive producers through 21 Laps Entertainment, the production company behind projects including Stranger Things and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Also reportedly involved is Story Kitchen, a studio known for adapting video game properties for film and television. Variety says executives Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are producing the series alongside Toru Nakahara from Sega.
No Official Announcement Yet
Despite Variety’s report, neither Netflix, Atlus, nor Sega has officially confirmed the live-action Persona series.
As a result, details such as the story, cast, release window, and which Persona game—if any—the adaptation will be based on remain unknown.
Persona Continues to Expand
Originally released in 1996 as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona has grown into one of Atlus’ most successful RPG franchises. The series is known for combining turn-based combat with social simulation mechanics and has become increasingly popular worldwide through entries such as Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5.
According to Variety, the reported Netflix adaptation arrives during a major period for the franchise, following the announcement of Persona 6 and ongoing celebrations for Persona’s 30th anniversary.
Until Netflix or Atlus makes an official announcement, the live-action series should be treated as a reported project rather than a confirmed production.
