Aggro Crab and Landfall continues to release new content for PEAK fans! PEAK featured new content following the Roots update on November 5, 2025, bringing a spine-chilling new biome. This content drop replaces Tropics biome temporarily with its darker, more mysterious expedition and new mechanics as well.

The Roots Biome: A Haunting Forest Experience

PEAK players enter the sprawling redwood forest, casted with shadows and mysterious fungi instead of tropical sunshine. Although it may initially appear similar to Tropics biome, it delivers a completely different experience with its eerie woodland environment. It features towering redwood trees, abundant mushroom growth, and reported sightings of obscure creatures lurking in the shadows.

It delivers the distinctly spooky vibe despite being late for the Halloween season. Take note that players sensitive to arachnids may enable Bug-Phobia mode in their options menu. Also, the Roots appear in every daily map until November 17 to have enough time to explore the biome.

New Enemies To Test Your Climbing Skills

A whole new challenging expedition awaits in The Roots including spiders as the most dangerous new threat. It can hang from branches and grab unsuspecting climbers before releasing them in fatal situations. These arachnid ambushes add a new layer of tension and terror to the gameplay.

Besides them, giant beetles also roam the forest floor and branches for additional obstacles. Other than these terrifying creatures, expect to encounter zombies as well during your climbing expedition. All these new enemies made the Roots completely different from previous biomes you’ve explored.

Secret Items and the Cooking Item Changes

The new update also expanded PEAK’s item system by introducing biome-specific and universal additions. Some of Roots-exclusive items include the Shroomberries, Fortified Milk, Cloud Fungus, and Bounce Fungus. The Shroomberries provide random effects that cycle daily alongside map rotation.

There are also three new items that spawn across all biomes such as the following:

Item Use
Rescue Claw for emergency situations
Checkpoint Flag for positioning
Book of Bones [Players must discover firsthand]

More so, there are more additional secret items you’ll find during your exploration. Other than these items, the cooking mechanic also received an overhaul. Several non-food items now produce effects when cooked.

However, cooked usable items like bandages will no longer grant you extra stamina. Also, you can now consume poisonous berries but the mushroom poison remains uncookable.

New Badges, Emotes, and More

There are also 11 new badges that are Roots-specific achievements. These badges provide you long-term goals as you navigate through the new biome. In addition, they added eight new emotes to expand interaction during expeditions.

You can now also join games or receive invites despite not having the game open as long your Steam is running. This improves the multiplayer experience and makes coordinating with your friends more convenient. Also, the update addresses multiple bugs including fixes on pinging, visual glitches, and item use restoration issues.

Final Thoughts

With The Roots update, PEAK players get to enjoy a haunting exploration in the redwood biome apart from the typical tropical adventure. Expect to encounter new enemies like spiders, beetles, and even zombies throughout your climbing experience. Plus, you will get to discover secret items and mechanic changes that adds twist to your current expedition.
