What Are Mutations?
Mutations are rare breeding outcomes that can occur whenever two compatible Pals produce an egg.
A mutated Pal is more powerful than a normal version of the same species, featuring:

- A unique passive ability exclusive to mutated variants.
Because mutations are based entirely on chance, there’s no guaranteed method to produce one. Every egg represents another opportunity, making persistence the key to successful mutation hunting.
How Mutation Breeding Works
The core breeding process hasn’t changed.
To breed Pals, you’ll need to:
- Place two compatible Pals in a Breeding Farm.
- Add a Cake to begin breeding.
- Wait for an egg to appear.
- Incubate the egg until it hatches.
The difference in version 1.0 is that every egg now has a chance to become a mutated offspring.
When this happens, the resulting Pal will hatch with improved stats and its exclusive mutation passive. Since mutation rates are intentionally low, expect to hatch a large number of eggs before finding the variant you’re after.
One of the best ways to increase your overall chances is by operating multiple Breeding Farms simultaneously, allowing you to produce significantly more eggs over time.
Best Cakes for Mutation Breeding
Palworld 1.0 also introduces several new cakes, each designed to improve a different aspect of breeding.

Mutations aren’t the only improvements made to breeding in the 1.0 update.
Breeding combinations have changed
Many breeding recipes have been rebalanced to better match the game’s progression. As a result, older breeding charts may no longer be accurate, so it’s worth verifying combinations before starting large breeding projects.
Active skill inheritance is more controlled
Offspring no longer inherit from every active skill a parent has learned.
