Overwatch Season 3 Event Offers Free Loot Boxes and Bonus Rewards

Blizzard has kicked off a new limited-time event in Overwatch as part of Season 3, giving players multiple opportunities to earn free Loot Boxes simply by logging in and playing throughout the season. The Venture Excavation Initiative Event rewards consistent participation, with bonus Epic and Legendary Loot Boxes available for those who complete additional objectives before the season ends.

Venture Excavation Initiative Event Explained

The Venture Excavation Initiative Event is available throughout Season 3 and offers up to 17 standard Loot Boxes, along with one Epic Loot Box and one Legendary Loot Box.

Players can earn rewards by logging into Overwatch and winning one match per day for three consecutive days. Completing this three-day streak counts as a single “dig,” rewarding one Loot Box. Players who stay active each week can continue completing digs and collecting rewards until the event concludes.

Additional milestone rewards include:

Requirement Reward
Complete 4 digs 1 Epic Loot Box
Complete 6 digs 1 Legendary Loot Box

The event remains available until Season 3 ends on August 11, 2026.

More Seasonal Events Are Running Alongside It

The Venture Excavation Initiative Event isn’t the only limited-time activity available in Season 3.

Blizzard is also hosting the Anima Strike Event, which runs through July 6. Players who complete event challenges on the new Tokyo-based Neon Junction map can earn:

Reward Maximum Available
Standard Loot Boxes 18
Epic Loot Boxes 3
Legendary Loot Boxes 3

Another event, Community Crafted Arcade, begins on June 30 and will introduce gameplay modifications for several heroes, offering a different take on the standard Overwatch experience.

Season 3 Introduces New Hero Shion

Season 3 also marks the debut of Shion, the game’s 52nd hero.

Shion is a DPS character who rides a motorcycle and fights using dual pistols, allowing her to quickly reposition and pressure opponents from unexpected angles. Blizzard designed the hero around high mobility and aggressive flanking, making her one of the season’s biggest gameplay additions.

The new hero has already received a positive reception from players, with many praising her fast-paced playstyle and overall design.

Overwatch Continues Its Seasonal Content Push

Season 3 builds on Blizzard’s recent efforts to refresh Overwatch with more frequent events, free rewards, and gameplay updates. The game recently returned to its original Overwatch branding and reintroduced free Loot Boxes with updated drop rates, changes that have generally been well received by the community.

Looking ahead, Blizzard has more content planned throughout the season, including additional limited-time events and hero updates. While rumors about future characters continue to circulate online, none of those leaks have been officially confirmed. For now, Season 3 gives players several ways to earn free rewards while exploring the latest content added to Overwatch.
