Overwatch: Doctrine Ability Kit Revealed

Blizzard has fully revealed Doctrine’s ability kit ahead of the new Support Hero’s arrival in Overwatch Season 5 on October 6, 2026. The vampire-themed Hero can damage enemies and heal allies with his Eternal Scepter, enhance his abilities through Infuse, deploy healing drones, and temporarily take flight.

Doctrine is Overwatch’s 54th playable Hero and the ninth new character introduced in 2026. Players can already test his kit through a limited Hero Trial running until September 14.

Who Is Doctrine in Overwatch?

Doctrine’s real name is Tamuka Yeukai, and he comes from Zimbabwe’s Shona tribe. Chronologically, he’s 77 years old, although his vampiric powers allow him to maintain the physical appearance of a man in his 40s.

His introduction at BlizzCon 2026 also established an important connection to Overwatch’s current story.

Doctrine was imprisoned in Iceland before being freed by Doomfist’s splinter group. After his release, he greeted Doomfist as an old friend, confirming an existing relationship between the two characters.

Doctrine is aligned with Talon and Doomfist, placing him directly within the ongoing Reign of Talon storyline.

Doctrine’s Role and Support Passive

Doctrine is a Support Hero with the Survivor subrole.

The Survivor passive gives Doctrine health regeneration whenever he uses a movement ability, complementing a kit designed around mobility and staying active during fights.

His abilities combine healing, damage, mobility, and temporary buffs, with Infuse acting as the central mechanic connecting much of his kit.

Eternal Scepter

Doctrine’s primary weapon is the Eternal Scepter.

The weapon operates at mid-range and can both damage enemies and heal teammates, allowing Doctrine to switch between offensive and defensive responsibilities depending on the situation.

His perks can further improve the Scepter’s healing output, while Infuse can add another effect when used with the weapon.

This dual-purpose design allows Doctrine to contribute without completely abandoning healing whenever his team starts applying pressure.

Infuse

Infuse enhances other parts of Doctrine’s kit rather than functioning purely as an independent attack.

It can modify:

  • Eternal Scepter
  • Shrouded Momentum
  • Invigorating Drones

The exact benefit depends on which ability Doctrine combines it with.

Managing Infuse efficiently will therefore be an important part of playing Doctrine, especially since his Major Perks can change how frequently it becomes available.

Shrouded Momentum

Shrouded Momentum is Doctrine’s primary mobility tool.

Activating it sends Doctrine rushing horizontally across the battlefield while reducing the damage he takes during the movement.

Using Shrouded Momentum while Infused makes the ability considerably more versatile by giving Doctrine free-flight capability.

That creates opportunities to quickly reposition, reach teammates on different elevations, escape dangerous situations, or approach fights from unexpected angles.

Since Doctrine’s Survivor passive regenerates health when he uses a movement ability, Shrouded Momentum also contributes to his personal survivability.

Invigorating Drones

Doctrine can deploy Invigorating Drones to support his teammates.

The drones provide allies with additional healing while also increasing their attack speed, giving Doctrine a way to simultaneously improve a teammate’s survivability and offensive pressure.

Infusing the ability changes its focus.

When Invigorating Drones are Infused, Doctrine can instead enhance his own healing and attack speed, giving him more personal power when needed.

The mechanic means players have to decide whether the drones’ benefits are more valuable on their teammates or Doctrine himself during a particular fight.

Doctrine’s Deliverance Ultimate

Doctrine’s Ultimate is called Deliverance.

When activated, Doctrine releases a swarm of bat-shaped drones across the battlefield. The ability simultaneously strengthens his teammates and weakens his opponents.

Allies affected by Deliverance receive Overhealth, while enemies have their maximum health reduced.

That combination could make Deliverance particularly dangerous when coordinated with high-damage Ultimates.

Doomfist and Reaper are two potential partners. Reducing an opposing team’s maximum health immediately before a powerful offensive Ultimate could make it significantly harder for enemies to survive the engagement.

Timing and team coordination should therefore be critical to getting maximum value from Deliverance.

Doctrine’s Minor and Major Perks

Doctrine’s Perks allow players to further specialize his healing and Infuse mechanics.

His Minor Perks can improve healing provided by either his drones or Eternal Scepter.

The Major Perks offer more substantial changes. One can reduce Infuse’s cooldown based on the amount of damage and healing Doctrine produces.

Another introduces a much riskier tradeoff by allowing Doctrine to sacrifice some of his maximum health to increase the healing power of his Eternal Scepter.

The latter fits the character’s vampire theme particularly well, turning Doctrine’s own life force into a resource for supporting his team.

When Does Doctrine Release in Overwatch?

Doctrine officially joins Overwatch with Season 5 on October 6, 2026.

Players don’t have to wait until then to try him, however. Blizzard is running a Doctrine Hero Trial through September 14, providing an early opportunity to test his abilities before his full release.

Season 5 will bring several other major changes alongside Doctrine.

Sombra is receiving a substantial rework that shifts her toward a Support-oriented role, while Roadhog is getting an updated Tank kit. The new Watchpoint: Grímsvötn Escort map will also arrive during the season.

Overwatch Players Can Claim a Mythic Voucher Before Season 5

Blizzard is also celebrating BlizzCon 2026 with a limited-time Overwatch reward.

Players who log in and complete a match before October 5 can receive a Mythic Voucher.

The voucher can be exchanged for one of 14 eligible Mythic Hero skins previously released during earlier Overwatch seasons.

That promotion ends immediately before Season 5 begins, making it worth completing the requirement before Doctrine’s full launch.

One More Overwatch Hero Is Coming in 2026

Doctrine isn’t Blizzard’s final Hero of the year.

The developer has confirmed that one additional character will arrive before the end of 2026. The currently unnamed Hero 55 is an Omnic Support with a detective-inspired appearance, including a fedora, long coat, and umbrella.

With Doctrine joining the roster in October and Hero 55 still waiting for a complete gameplay reveal, Overwatch’s unusually busy 2026 hero schedule isn’t finished yet.

Season 5 will also push the Reign of Talon storyline toward its decisive finale. Doctrine’s close connection to Doomfist means the new Support isn’t simply another addition to the roster—he’s positioned to play a significant role in where Overwatch’s story goes next.
