One Weapon Bunker Per Match: New Fortnite Changes Explained

Fortnite just made one of its boldest balance calls of the season. The Shockwave Hammer has been vaulted, removing one of the game’s most popular and powerful mobility tools. For months, this item dominated rotations and endgame movement — and now its absence reshapes how players move, fight, and loot across the island.\

Why the Shockwave Hammer Was Vaulted

The Fortnitemares update introduced four new mobility options — the Chainsaw, Crash Pads, Witch’s Broom, and Ghostface Knife. While all offered variety, none could compete with the raw efficiency of the Shockwave Hammer. Its timed recharge, knockback, and vertical boost made it almost mandatory in competitive and casual lobbies alike.

By vaulting it, Epic opened space for other movement options to matter again. Players now experiment with different setups depending on playstyle. For double mobility setups, the Ghostface Knife stands out as a strong partner to Shockwave Grenades, offering good speed and flexibility even after a recent nerf.

Ghostface Knife Nerf Explained

The Ghostface Knife saw a 17% speed reduction, lowering its multiplier from 2.1x to 1.73x. It’s still reliable for quick rotations but now demands more stamina management and timing. Pairing it with Scooby Snacks or the Exotic Flowberry Fizz helps maintain momentum thanks to the slap effect, granting temporary unlimited stamina.

There’s also a movement trick worth noting — combining jump attacks with slides. Jump, swing, land, slide, and repeat to create a chain of pseudo-dashes. When done correctly, this keeps speed consistent while making the knife feel fluid and satisfying for traversing open ground.

Weapon Bunker Changes and Exotic Adjustments

A smaller but noticeable shift is the reduction of Weapon Bunkers from two to one per match. Previously, players could rely on having a nearby bunker open by the second zone, but this change lowers the odds of securing specific Exotics like the Flowberry Fizz or the Exotic Reclaimer Revolver.

Speaking of which, the Exotic Reclaimer Revolver also took a hit in recent tuning. Lowered base damage and reduced range make it far less appealing than before. With fewer bunkers spawning and weaker stats, chasing Exotics feels riskier — a stark contrast to previous seasons where they were high-priority loot targets.

Scooby Snacks Remain in the Loot Pool

Rumors spread that Scooby Snacks had been removed from Fortnite’s main modes, but that isn’t true. They were only vaulted in the limited Duo mode. In Battle Royale and Zero Build, Scooby Snacks remain a key mobility aid and still drop from regular loot sources. Their synergy with the Ghostface Knife and other stamina-based mobility items keeps them valuable in every loadout.

With the Shockwave Hammer vaulted, Fortnite’s balance leans toward choice rather than dominance. The mobility meta feels more flexible now — with each item having a defined strength and weakness. Whether it’s the Witch’s Broom for vertical repositioning, the Crash Pads for team rotations, or the Knife for stamina-driven sprint routes, no single option overshadows the rest.
