Trollweed is one of Mortal Shell 2’s strangest Permanent Pickup items, with only two available during a first playthrough and an item description that challenges players to collect 1,000. Reaching that enormous total unlocks Tier 2 Familiarity, giving Trollweed two unusual abilities: transforming you into a bush when active and granting total damage immunity when equipped as a passive.
Getting there legitimately is another matter. Because of how Trollweed availability works across repeat runs, reaching 1,000 requires hundreds of playthroughs.
All Trollweed Locations in Mortal Shell 2
There are two Trollweeds available during your first playthrough. The first is hidden almost immediately after starting the game, while the second is inside Marrow Keep.
Trollweed #1 Location
The first Trollweed is located close to the area where you awaken at the beginning of Mortal Shell 2.
After climbing out of the coffin, inspect the wooden fence surrounding the clearing. There is a hole you can walk through.
Pass through the opening and turn right. Continue toward the small fence overlooking the large chasm to find the first Trollweed.
It’s easy to miss because most players will naturally head toward the main route after leaving the coffin.
Trollweed #2 Location
The second Trollweed is inside Marrow Keep, in the same chamber as the Marrow Keep beacon.
Stand at the beacon and face toward the Shellkeeper’s Vault, where Zhirelle is located. Look upward and you should see a large illuminated dome in the ceiling.
The Trollweed is sitting in the middle of this hollow dome, beyond normal reach.
Use a Sidearm to shoot it down. Weapons such as Naylshotte or the Forgotten Crossbow work for this.
Once hit, the Trollweed falls to the floor, where you can pick it up normally.
How to Get 1,000 Trollweeds
The description attached to Trollweed hints that collecting 1,000 will reveal the item’s true purpose.
Legitimately reaching that number requires an extreme amount of repetition.
You can collect two Trollweeds during the initial playthrough. On subsequent runs, you can repeatedly collect the Trollweed found in Marrow Keep.
As a result, obtaining 1,000 through normal gameplay requires 999 total playthroughs.
For almost every player, this makes Tier 2 Trollweed more of a deliberately absurd long-term secret than a conventional progression goal.
Can You Get 1,000 Trollweeds With Cheats?
PC players can bypass the 999-playthrough requirement through unofficial modifications.
The UE4SS Cheat Menu mod can be used to add 1,000 Trollweeds through its console rather than collecting them individually across repeat runs.
This is an unofficial method rather than part of Mortal Shell 2’s intended progression system.
There is also an important drawback: once those Trollweeds have been added, they cannot be dropped or removed to reduce their effect. Players experimenting with this method should therefore be aware that the resulting passive can fundamentally change normal gameplay.
What Happens When You Collect 1,000 Trollweeds?
Collecting 1,000 Trollweeds upgrades the item to Tier 2 Familiarity and unlocks its full effects.
| Slot | Trollweed Tier 2 Effect |
|---|---|
| Active | Transforms your character into a stationary bush |
| Passive | Grants total damage immunity |
The two effects work very differently depending on which slot you use.
What Does the Trollweed Bush Transformation Do?
When Trollweed is placed in the Active slot, activating it transforms your character into a bush.
While transformed, enemies cannot target you and nearby hostile characters become non-hostile.
There is a significant limitation, however: you cannot move while in bush form.
That makes the transformation more of a novelty or situational stealth tool than something useful for ordinary traversal or combat.
How Trollweed’s Total Immunity Works
The Tier 2 passive is considerably more powerful.
Equip Trollweed in the Passive slot, and your character becomes immune to damage.
Enemy attacks can still connect, and their impact can still stagger you, but your health will not decrease. The immunity also applies to grab attacks.
In practical terms, reaching 1,000 Trollweeds provides an extraordinarily powerful defensive effect capable of trivializing most conventional sources of damage.
The catch is the requirement. With only two Trollweeds available initially and one repeatedly obtainable on later runs, the legitimate path to Tier 2 demands 999 playthroughs. For players willing to reach that deliberately excessive milestone, the reward is one of Mortal Shell 2’s most unusual secrets: a choice between becoming an untargetable bush or becoming effectively immune to damage.
