Mortal Shell 2 lets you freely refund Shell Points through the level-up menu at any beacon, but resetting Glimpses invested in Shell Bonding requires a Mether’s Severance. This consumable allows Zhirelle in the Shellkeeper’s Vault to reset an eligible Shell and return all Glimpses spent on its Bonding upgrades.
The process is straightforward, but Mether’s Severance is consumed each time you use it, and Genessa cannot be respecced through this system.
How to Respec Shell Bonding in Mortal Shell 2
To refund the Glimpses you’ve invested into a Shell’s Bonding upgrades, travel to Zhirelle in the Shellkeeper’s Vault.
Before speaking to her, make sure you have:
- The Shell you want to reset currently equipped
- At least one Mether’s Severance in your inventory
Speak with Zhirelle and select Shell Severance from the available dialogue options. Confirm your decision when prompted.
The selected Shell’s Bonding upgrades will then be reset, and all Glimpses spent on them will be returned.
Your Mether’s Severance is consumed in the process, so every additional Shell Bonding respec requires another one.
Shell Points and Glimpses Have Different Respec Systems
Mortal Shell 2 uses separate methods for resetting its two upgrade resources.

This distinction is important when experimenting with builds. Shell Points can be redistributed freely, while Shell Bonding choices require a limited consumable to reverse.
Where to Get Mether’s Severance
Mether’s Severance can be purchased from Merrick in Marrow Keep.
Open Merrick’s shop and check the Rare Findings section. Each Mether’s Severance costs:
5,000 Gold
Merrick starts the game with three Mether’s Severances in stock, giving you access to several Shell Bonding resets relatively early if you can afford them.
After purchasing those initial three, Merrick can occasionally replenish his supply as you continue progressing through the game.
Because each Severance is consumed when used, it’s worth keeping one available if you’re experimenting heavily with different Shell Bonding setups.
Can You Respec Genessa With Mether’s Severance?
No. Genessa’s Shell Bonding upgrades cannot be respecced with Mether’s Severance.
The restriction comes from how her progression is handled. Zhirelle is the NPC who accepts Mether’s Severance and performs Shell Severance, but she does not manage Genessa’s Bonding upgrades.
Instead, Genessa’s Shell Bonding is handled by the Stray Sester in the training area. That NPC does not provide an option to hand over Mether’s Severance and reset the Glimpses invested in Genessa.
As a result, Glimpses spent on Genessa’s Shell Bonding are effectively permanent.
For other eligible Shells, respeccing is much more forgiving. Equip the Shell you want to reset, bring a Mether’s Severance to Zhirelle, and select Shell Severance to recover your Glimpses. With Merrick selling the item for 5,000 Gold and periodically restocking it, you have room to experiment with different Bonding builds as you progress through Mortal Shell 2.
