Mortal Shell 2: Peter’s Perfect Parry Trophy/Achievement Guide

Peter’s Perfect Parry is one of Mortal Shell 2’s hidden achievements and trophies. Its description asks you to “parry each of the Nameless Captive’s headspins,” but that wording leaves out an important detail: the boss has several different headspin attacks, and only one counts.

To unlock Peter’s Perfect Parry, you need to Perfect Guard all seven hits of the Nameless Captive’s seven-hit headspin combo during Phase 2 using the Untarnished Seal.

Missing even one hit means the attempt fails. Since killing the boss prevents you from immediately repeating the encounter, it is worth knowing exactly which attack you’re waiting for before committing.

Peter’s Perfect Parry Requirements

You need the Untarnished Seal for this achievement. Its Perfect Guard mechanic is what the game expects you to use against the Nameless Captive.

The requirements are:

  • Equip the Untarnished Seal.
  • Fight the Nameless Captive in the Prisoner’s Domain Corrupted Gate.
  • Reach the second phase.
  • Wait for his seven-hit headspin combo.
  • Perfect Guard all seven attacks consecutively.
  • Do not take a hit during the sequence.

You don’t need to Perfect Guard every spinning attack the boss performs throughout the entire fight.

Which Nameless Captive Headspin Counts?

The Nameless Captive has three notable headspin sequences, which is where most of the confusion surrounding this achievement comes from.

Headspin Attack Description Required?
4-hit combo Sweeps his head blade across his body, alternating sides No
10-hit combo Rapidly spins the head blade like a fan at the beginning of Phase 2 No
7-hit combo Performs seven overhead, helicopter-like spins during Phase 2 Yes

The seven-hit version is the only combo required for Peter’s Perfect Parry.

Trying to perfectly defend the four-hit or ten-hit sequences won’t unlock the achievement.

How to Recognize the 7-Hit Headspin

Learning the animation is more important than trying to count attacks from every spinning combo.

Before performing the correct attack, the Nameless Captive leans forward heavily, almost as though he is about to fall over. At the same time, he pulls the blade behind himself for a noticeable wind-up.

He then begins the seven-hit sequence.

The attack’s rhythm is slightly deceptive. It consists of six consecutive spins that progressively accelerate, followed by a short pause and then a seventh and final attack.

That last delayed hit is particularly easy to mistime.

How to Perfect Guard All 7 Headspins

Play the fight normally until the Nameless Captive reaches approximately half health and you trigger the scripted Riposte sequence involving his own blade.

After entering Phase 2, stop attacking him.

Instead, dodge his other moves and wait specifically for the seven-hit headspin animation. This reduces the chance that you accidentally kill the boss before getting the achievement.

Once you recognize the wind-up, prepare to Perfect Guard.

The first two hits are relatively manageable because their timing is clearly telegraphed. After the second hit, however, the sequence accelerates dramatically. You’ll need to match the rhythm of the next four rapid spins rather than reacting to each one from scratch.

After successfully guarding the sixth hit, don’t immediately press the button again.

There is a brief delay before hit seven. Wait for the final swing and Perfect Guard it separately.

If all seven Perfect Guards register without you taking damage, Peter’s Perfect Parry should unlock.

Best Strategy for Peter’s Perfect Parry

The safest approach is to treat Phase 2 as an achievement attempt rather than a normal boss fight.

Once the scripted transition is complete, avoid dealing unnecessary health damage. Dodge until the Nameless Captive uses the correct headspin, then focus entirely on Perfect Guard timing.

The basic sequence is:

  1. Equip the Untarnished Seal before the encounter.
  2. Fight normally until Phase 2.
  3. Stop attacking after the scripted Riposte.
  4. Dodge until you see the seven-hit headspin wind-up.
  5. Perfect Guard the first two attacks.
  6. Match the increasingly fast rhythm for hits three through six.
  7. Wait through the brief pause.
  8. Perfect Guard the seventh hit.

The final delay is the part most likely to catch you out, so avoid continuing the rapid input rhythm after hit six.

What to Do If You Miss a Perfect Guard

Failing partway through the seven-hit combo creates another problem: the Nameless Captive’s Break meter may now be partially filled.

If you simply wait for another seven-hit attempt, your Perfect Guards could fill the Break meter in the middle of the next combo and interrupt the sequence with a Riposte opportunity.

Instead, deliberately finish filling his Break meter and perform the Riposte.

This effectively resets the meter, giving you a clean slate for the next attempt. Eredrim can be particularly useful here if you need to generate Break damage quickly.

Afterward, return to dodging and wait for another seven-hit headspin.

Don’t Kill the Nameless Captive Too Early

Be particularly careful with the boss’s health while attempting Peter’s Perfect Parry.

If you kill the Nameless Captive without unlocking the achievement, you won’t simply be able to restart the encounter and try again. You’ll need another playthrough, such as New Game+, to fight him again.

For that reason, once you’re safely into Phase 2, prioritize survival and Perfect Guard attempts rather than damage.

The achievement description makes Peter’s Perfect Parry sound more complicated than it actually is. You don’t need to parry every spinning move the Nameless Captive has. Wait for the seven-hit helicopter-style headspin in Phase 2, Perfect Guard all seven hits with the Untarnished Seal, and make sure the boss’s Break meter doesn’t interrupt your attempt.
