Fragile Tarstones are reusable Support Tarstones in Mortal Shell 2 that eventually break when their durability is exhausted, providing bonuses to Coins, Gloom, Glimpses, or dungeon survival along the way. Unlike unique Tarstones that can only be collected once per playthrough, Fragile Tarstones can drop repeatedly, making them particularly useful for resource farming and difficult dungeon runs.
There are four types of Fragile Tarstones in total. Three can drop from regular Lithopods, while the Glimpse Stone is restricted to an endgame Lithopod variant found in the Unfound Path.
How Fragile Tarstones Work
Fragile Tarstones differ from standard Tarstones because they have a limited amount of durability.
Their durability decreases according to the individual stone’s effect. Some lose durability as you earn a particular resource, while others degrade when enemies are defeated or when their special ability activates.
Once the durability reaches its limit, the Tarstone breaks. Depending on the stone, breaking it can also provide an additional reward.
Fragile Tarstones are not unique, so you can obtain more copies by killing the enemies that drop them.
Every Fragile Tarstone uses a Support slot in the Tarstones menu. Since there are four Support slots available, you can equip up to four at once.
All Fragile Tarstones and Effects
There are four Fragile Tarstones in Mortal Shell 2:
| Fragile Tarstone | Effect | Effect When Broken | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Justiciar’s Stone | Gain 30% more Coins from defeated enemies | Grants 1,500 Coins | 5,000, reduced by Coins gained |
| Gloombound Stone | Gain 30% more Gloom from defeated enemies | Grants 3,000 Gloom | 10,000, reduced by Gloom gained |
| Egon’s Stone | Allows you to revive at a Dungeon entrance after dying inside it | Prevents Gloom loss from that death | 3, reduced whenever the revival activates |
| Glimpse Stone | No passive resource bonus | Grants 3 Glimpses when it breaks | 20, reduced for each enemy defeated |
The best option depends on what you need. Justiciar’s Stone and Gloombound Stone are designed for resource farming, Egon’s Stone provides additional security during dungeon exploration, and Glimpse Stone converts combat progress into Glimpses once it breaks.
Justiciar’s Stone
Justiciar’s Stone increases Coins obtained from defeated enemies by 30%.
Its durability is tied directly to the Coins you collect from kills and starts at 5,000. Once the stone breaks, it provides an additional 1,500 Coins.
This makes Justiciar’s Stone particularly useful when clearing enemy-heavy areas for money. Because Fragile Tarstones can be obtained repeatedly, you can continue replacing broken stones as more copies drop.
Gloombound Stone
Gloombound Stone increases Gloom earned from defeated enemies by 30%.
It starts with 10,000 durability, which decreases according to the amount of Gloom gained while using it.
When the Tarstone eventually breaks, you receive another 3,000 Gloom.
For players specifically farming Gloom, the combination of the 30% bonus and the break reward makes Gloombound Stone one of the most useful Support Tarstones to keep equipped.
Egon’s Stone
Egon’s Stone works differently from the resource-focused Tarstones.
If you die while inside a Dungeon with Egon’s Stone equipped, it gives you the option to revive at the Dungeon entrance.
The stone has three durability charges, with one consumed whenever its revival effect activates.
When Egon’s Stone finally breaks, it also prevents the Gloom loss associated with that death.
Its value is therefore less about farming and more about protecting progress during dangerous dungeon runs.
Glimpse Stone
The Glimpse Stone does not provide an ongoing passive resource multiplier.
Instead, its durability decreases whenever you defeat an enemy. After 20 enemy kills, the stone breaks and awards 3 Glimpses.
Unlike the other three Fragile Tarstones, however, Glimpse Stone cannot drop from ordinary Lithopods. You need to reach an endgame area and hunt their upgraded variant.
How to Get Fragile Tarstones
Fragile Tarstones drop from Lithopods, stone crab-like creatures that burrow underground before lunging at you when you approach.
The specific drops depend on where the Lithopods are found.
| Fragile Tarstone | Where to Get It |
|---|---|
| Justiciar’s Stone | Lithopods in Fainweald and Ruins of Mammon |
| Gloombound Stone | Lithopods in Fainweald and Ruins of Mammon |
| Egon’s Stone | Lithopods in Fainweald and Ruins of Mammon |
| Glimpse Stone | Obsidian Lithopods in the Unfound Path |
Justiciar’s Stone, Gloombound Stone, and Egon’s Stone can therefore be farmed from Lithopods throughout the more commonly accessible regions.
Glimpse Stone requires considerably more progression.
How to Get Glimpse Stone in the Unfound Path
Glimpse Stone only drops from Obsidian Lithopods in the Unfound Path.
The Unfound Path is located beneath Marrow Keep and does not become accessible until you have collected and Gloom Siphoned 167 Ova in the Ova Nursery.
Once the region opens, look for Obsidian Lithopods, an upgraded endgame version of the standard creature. They can be identified by their glossy black carapace.
Defeating these enemies gives you the opportunity to obtain Glimpse Stones, which can then be broken by defeating 20 enemies while the Tarstone is equipped.
For general resource farming, Justiciar’s Stone and Gloombound Stone offer the most straightforward value, while Egon’s Stone is worth carrying when tackling dangerous Dungeons. Glimpse Stone becomes an additional source of Glimpses once the Unfound Path is unlocked, giving Fragile Tarstones useful roles from regular progression through Mortal Shell 2’s endgame.
