More Gears of War Games Could Be Coming to PS5

The arrival of Gears of War: Reloaded on PlayStation 5 has sparked speculation that more games from the iconic series may be on their way to Sony’s console.

According to a report from Insider Gaming, the Trophy list for the newly released Reloaded includes a Platinum Trophy titled “Nothin’ Left.” Like all Platinum Trophies, it unlocks once players earn every other Trophy in the game. However, its description-translated as “Your adventure is over, for now…”-is what caught fans’ attention. Many believe the wording could be a deliberate hint that more Gears of War titles are planned for PlayStation.

Could the Rest of the Trilogy Be Next?

This theory lines up with long-standing rumors that the first three Gears of War games were being prepped for re-release. Early reports suggested a full trilogy collection, but when Microsoft and The Coalition announced Reloaded, it turned out to be a standalone remaster of the original 2006 game.

If the Trophy description is indeed intentional foreshadowing, it’s possible that Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 could also receive similar treatment and eventually release on PS5. As of now, however, neither Microsoft nor The Coalition has officially confirmed future plans.

What’s Included in Gears of War: Reloaded

Gears of War: Reloaded is a remastered version of the original Xbox 360 title, featuring:

  • 4K resolution support
  • Up to 120 FPS in multiplayer
  • 60 FPS in campaign mode
  • Enhanced shadows and reflections
  • All content from the Ultimate Edition, including the bonus campaign chapter
  • Every multiplayer map and mode from past editions
  • Full online and local split-screen co-op support

The release marks the first time a Gears of War game has appeared on a PlayStation console, making it a significant milestone for the once Xbox-exclusive franchise.

Mixed Reception

Despite the excitement around the franchise finally coming to PS5, reviews have been mixed. Some players appreciate the opportunity to experience a landmark Xbox title on new hardware, while others feel the game shows its age.

One critic summed up the sentiment with a score of 59/100, noting: “It’s fun to see this former Xbox system-seller finally land on PlayStation, but those who truly wanted to play Gears have had nearly two decades to do so. The game feels like it’s past its prime.”

The Road Ahead

Whether or not more Gears of War titles will make their way to PlayStation remains uncertain. But with the Trophy description teasing “for now” and long-standing rumors of additional remasters, fans have reason to believe the franchise’s future on PS5 might just be getting started.

For now, Gears of War: Reloaded is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
