To unlock Howling Harbor in Moonlighter 2, you first need to bring Julien to Tresna, complete Zephyr Fields in Aeolia, and progress through Julien’s quests until you receive Souls Forever Lost 2. Unlike some earlier regions, Howling Harbor doesn’t become available simply by reaching another Endless Vault milestone.
There are several prerequisites involved, and Julien won’t immediately offer the quest you need. Here’s the full process from finding him to opening Aeolia’s second region.
How to Bring Julien to Tresna
Before you can unlock Howling Harbor, Julien must be brought to Tresna.
This opportunity becomes available after receiving the Voice Beyond quest.
Starting from your relic shop in Tresna, head south and take the stairs leading toward the path on the left. At the bottom of the stairs, look for a hand sticking out of a portal.
Interact with the hand and you’ll be asked to pay 500 Gold.
Pay the fee and Julien will emerge from the portal, making him available in Tresna.
If the hand isn’t there yet, continue progressing until you’ve obtained Voice Beyond.
Complete Zephyr Fields in Aeolia
With Julien in Tresna, your next major requirement is completing Zephyr Fields, Aeolia’s first region.
This time, simply entering the region isn’t enough.
You need to finish the run and defeat the final boss of Zephyr Fields before the Howling Harbor questline can progress.
After defeating the boss, return to Tresna.
How to Start Souls Forever Lost
Once Zephyr Fields is complete, sleep until daytime and visit Julien.
You need him to give you the quest Souls Forever Lost.
Julien may have other missions available first if you haven’t been completing his questline. If Souls Forever Lost doesn’t appear immediately, continue finishing the quests he offers until it becomes available.
Accept Souls Forever Lost when it appears.
Enter Kalina’s Night Realm
After accepting Souls Forever Lost, start another adventure in Kalina’s Night Realm.
Unlike the Zephyr Fields requirement, you don’t have to complete this run.
There’s no need to defeat the region’s final boss, either. You simply need to enter and attempt the adventure. Even dying during the run won’t prevent you from progressing the quest.
Once the adventure ends and you’re back in Tresna, sleep again until daytime.
Return to Julien and speak with him to finish Souls Forever Lost.
How to Unlock Howling Harbor
After completing Souls Forever Lost, talk to Julien again.
He will now give you the follow-up quest:
Souls Forever Lost 2
Howling Harbor unlocks as soon as you receive this mission.
Head to the Adventure Circle, and Aeolia’s second region should now be available as a destination.
The full unlocking process is:
- Progress until you receive Voice Beyond.
- Find the portal hand south of your relic shop in Tresna.
- Pay 500 Gold to bring Julien to Tresna.
- Complete Zephyr Fields and defeat its final boss.
- Sleep until daytime and speak with Julien.
- Complete his earlier quests until he offers Souls Forever Lost.
- Accept Souls Forever Lost.
- Enter Kalina’s Night Realm; completing the run isn’t required.
- Return to Tresna and sleep until daytime.
- Speak with Julien to complete Souls Forever Lost.
- Talk to him again and accept Souls Forever Lost 2.
- Use the Adventure Circle to travel to Howling Harbor.
What Is in Howling Harbor?
Howling Harbor follows the same general progression structure as Moonlighter 2’s other regions while introducing content specific to this part of Aeolia.
You can find:
- Bloblets
- New Recipes
- A hidden treasure
- A unique final boss
Completing the region also provides an important progression reward.
How to Get the King’s Right Mask
Defeat the final boss of Howling Harbor to receive the King’s Right Mask.
This complements the King’s Left Mask, which you previously obtained by defeating the boss in Zephyr Fields.
That makes Howling Harbor more than an optional side destination. Clearing Aeolia’s second region gives you the missing counterpart to the mask earned from its first major boss.
If Howling Harbor isn’t appearing at the Adventure Circle despite clearing Zephyr Fields, Julien’s questline is the most likely missing requirement. Make sure he has been rescued from the portal, work through his available missions, complete Souls Forever Lost, and accept Souls Forever Lost 2 to unlock the region.
