MindsEye Game Hits June 10, But Is the Gameplay Ready?

With a flood of high-profile releases in 2025, from Oblivion Remastered to Death Stranding 2, it’s easy to overlook a few titles in the chaos. But one omission is starting to look more like a red flag. MindsEye, the action-adventure game from Build a Rocket Boy—helmed by Rockstar North veteran Leslie Benzies—is launching on June 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Despite that fast-approaching date, almost no gameplay has been officially showcased beyond a couple of short trailers and teasers.

The February reveal gave us a glimpse of chaotic gunfights, high-speed car chases, and a heavy focus on destruction. Yet since then, there’s been barely any follow-up. Even the studio’s latest teasers resemble early segments of GTA 5, minus the polish and pacing that helped define Rockstar’s landmark hit. A lack of commentary, dev updates, or in-depth breakdowns only heightens the mystery.

MindsEye Gameplay Still a Mystery

So what do we know about MindsEye‘s core gameplay? Not much. One teaser shows protagonist Jacob Diaz in a shootout reminiscent of Trevor’s assault on the Lost MC in GTA 5. Another simply features driving through a neon-lit Red Rock City during a dust storm. Explosions and vehicles dominate, but there’s no mission structure, user interface, or combat system breakdown.

Build a Rocket Boy has clarified that MindsEye is more linear than open-world. However, that doesn’t explain the lack of communication on what makes the gameplay distinctive. Is it simply another cinematic shooter with some flashy effects and stylized cutscenes? For a game charging $60, more transparency is expected, especially just weeks ahead of launch.

MindsEye’s Connection to Everywhere and Arcadia

Part of the confusion stems from MindsEye‘s connection to Everywhere, the long-in-development UGC-based MMO also from Build a Rocket Boy. Initially teased in 2017, Everywhere includes various game modes and creation tools through a system called Arcadia. While MindsEye is being sold as a standalone game, it’s also described as an experience within Everywhere—one that showcases Arcadia’s potential.

Associate Game Director Adam Whiting compared it to Minecraft servers, suggesting that players might eventually build their own versions of MindsEye, complete with custom missions and storylines. However, these user-generated features are only briefly touched upon, and still unconfirmed for launch. There’s also mention of bonus missions in the Digital Deluxe Edition, but no footage or details have been released.

Development History and Launch Concerns

Leslie Benzies has an impressive résumé, producing every Grand Theft Auto title since GTA 3, along with Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. Yet MindsEye and Everywhere have both faced slow and quiet development. Originally running on Amazon’s Lumberyard engine, the studio shifted to Unreal Engine in 2020. Announced layoffs and multiple delays have raised concerns about how smoothly things are progressing behind the scenes.

MindsEye was first teased in 2022. That’s nearly three years with almost no major development footage shared. A final marketing push could still happen, or a delay may be looming. But so far, even the game’s narrative—promised as deep and cinematic—has little to show beyond a dancing robot and a few one-liners about mercenaries and trailers blowing up.

Will MindsEye Deliver at Launch?

Without concrete previews, a playable demo, or dev-led gameplay breakdowns, it’s difficult to judge whether MindsEye will offer anything beyond scripted explosions. There’s potential for modding and UGC, but these are not selling points if the base game lacks structure or engagement. Build a Rocket Boy needs to answer key questions fast—before players decide to look elsewhere.
