Metal Gear Solid is getting an unexpected new release this October, although it isn’t another game. Konami has partnered with CatCon for a collection of Metal Gear Solid-themed accessories and toys designed specifically for cats.
The unusual collaboration includes cardboard scratchers, plush toys, collars, and even a cat tree inspired by recognizable objects from the series. Most of the collection will be available for a limited time during CatCon on October 10 and 11, 2026.
Metal Gear Solid Cat Collection Revealed
Konami’s latest collaboration transforms several familiar Metal Gear Solid items and symbols into accessories for cats.
Among the products revealed or teased so far are:
- A cardboard scratcher based on the pink Love Box from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- An exclamation mark plush toy inspired by the series’ famous enemy alert
- Metal Gear Solid-themed cat collars
- A two-level cat tree designed to resemble one of the cylindrical drums found throughout the games
The designs lean heavily into the franchise’s long-running obsession with hiding inside boxes, making a cat-focused collaboration surprisingly appropriate for Metal Gear Solid.
Where to Buy the Metal Gear Solid Cat Accessories
Most items will be sold through the Konami booth at CatCon, which takes place at the Pasadena Convention Center on October 10-11.
Konami is also working with online cat personality One Eared Uno for the event, with the popular feline scheduled to make an appearance at CatCon.
There’s an important catch for collectors: much of the merchandise is expected to remain exclusive to the convention.
Fans unable to travel to Pasadena will still have at least one opportunity to participate. The Metal Gear Solid cardboard cat scratchers are scheduled to be sold online through OKS GEAR during the same October 10-11 period.
Given the limited availability, anyone hoping to secure one may want to check when sales begin rather than waiting until later in the weekend.
Metal Gear Solid Is Back in the Spotlight
The cat collection arrives during another busy period for Konami’s stealth franchise.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 launches on August 27, 2026, bringing several older Metal Gear titles to modern platforms.
The collection includes:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
Metal Gear Solid 4 is particularly notable because the game has historically remained tied to the PlayStation 3, making its inclusion one of the biggest attractions of Volume 2.
Peace Walker originally launched for PSP before receiving later versions, while Ghost Babel dates all the way back to its Game Boy Color release in 2000.
Fans Hope Master Collection Vol. 2 Avoids the First Collection’s Problems
Excitement surrounding Volume 2 has also been accompanied by some concern because of the condition of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 at launch.
The first collection received criticism for technical and presentation problems, including lag during some cutscenes, subtitle timing issues, typos, and limited display options on PC.
Konami has acknowledged that the first collection could have launched in better condition and has indicated that the development team is working to avoid repeating those problems with Volume 2.
That makes August 27 an important date for longtime Metal Gear fans, particularly those hoping to revisit Metal Gear Solid 4 on modern hardware.
Metal Gear Solid’s Box Obsession Finally Benefits Cats
The response to Konami’s CatCon collaboration has been largely enthusiastic, and it’s easy to understand why. Cardboard boxes have been synonymous with Metal Gear for decades, while cats famously need little encouragement to climb inside them.
Turning Peace Walker’s Love Box into a cat scratcher therefore feels like one of the more natural pieces of unconventional gaming merchandise.
The Metal Gear Solid cat collection launches at CatCon on October 10-11, 2026, with selected scratchers also being offered online during the event. With convention-exclusive products involved, however, collectors may only have a short window to grab them before they’re gone.
