Mega Man fans have a new game to check out, and it won’t cost them anything. Mega Man X: Regenesis is available now as a completely free fan-made game, offering a new 2D adventure inspired by the classic SNES era of the franchise.
The game is currently playable on PC, Android devices, and Steam Deck, while a Mac version is planned to arrive later. Despite looking and playing like a new entry in the Mega Man X series, however, Regenesis is not an official Capcom release.

Rather than simply recreating one of the existing Mega Man X games, Regenesis tells its own story through an alternate “what if?” timeline.
The premise explores a particularly grim possibility: What if Sigma actually won?
In this timeline, X has fallen, and humanity is approaching extinction. With seemingly no other options remaining, Dr. Cain initiates one final plan called Project Regenesis.
The project gives X another opportunity to change history and prevent humanity’s destruction, setting the stage for an entirely new adventure built around the familiar Mega Man X formula.
Eight New Maverick Bosses and Special Weapons
Regenesis includes eight original Maverick bosses created specifically for the fan game.
As with the classic Mega Man X titles, defeating these Mavericks rewards X with new Special Weapons based on their abilities. Players can gradually expand their arsenal and experiment with different weapons as they progress through the game.
That familiar boss-and-weapon structure should make Regenesis immediately recognizable to longtime fans, even though its enemies and stages are original creations.
The game also features Armor Upgrades for X, giving players additional improvements to discover throughout the adventure.
