Massive VR Games Update: Star Wars, Ghost Town, and More

This weekend brings a surprising amount of VR content, with several exciting games and updates announced across all major platforms. ILMxLAB returns with new Star Wars VR content, while developers push forward with PSVR 2 enhancements, immersive storytelling, and fresh horror titles.

Star Wars, Ghosts, and Pirates in New VR Games

ILMxLAB’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory arrives on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Described as a mixed reality playset, it blends VR and MR storytelling centered around a pod racer named Vololo and his mentor Sabula. The arcade-style experience lets players feel the thrill of racing on a virtual holotable, with unlockable figures and vehicles expanding the immersion.

Pirates VR: Jolly Roger sails to PSVR 2 on May 15. First revealed in January, this survival adventure game promises full use of PSVR 2 features, including adaptive triggers and headset rumble. However, refresh rate and eye-tracking support remain unconfirmed.

Next week brings Ghost Town to Meta Quest, with Steam and PSVR 2 to follow. From the makers of The Room VR, this standalone game features Edith Penrose, a witch-turned-paranormal investigator using ancient magic to solve eerie puzzles.

Simulation, Horror, and Retro Arcade Experiences

Walltown Wonders, a favorite mixed reality builder on Quest, comes to PSVR 2 and Steam with a fully virtual mode. Expect 100 unique buildings, 40 characters, three time-switchable environments, and a dating feature.

Virtual Skate, a physics-based skating sim, is also in the works for Meta Quest 3 and PCVR. Players control their feet using their hands, echoing the mechanics of Skate VR. The ability to film other players’ tricks adds a nostalgic touch for skateboarding fans.

Hypercharge, a fast-paced FPS made in Unreal Engine 4, is being tested for potential VR porting. The studio’s VR expertise through Retro Arcade Neon gives hope for a successful transition to Quest, PCVR, and PSVR 2.

The House of Da Vinci, a puzzle escape room classic, is heading to PSVR 2. Its stunning visuals and inventive mechanics will appeal to fans of VR puzzle-solving.

Zombie Army VR from Rebellion resurfaces with a promising 90 Hz refresh rate, dynamic foveated rendering, and full PSVR 2 hardware support. Its upcoming release and cross-platform potential restore hope after earlier poor impressions.

Horror Highlights and Classic VR Reworks

Tunnels, launching March 15 on Quest, taps into VR’s strength in claustrophobia. Players explore mine shafts and escape monsters using climbing, zip-lines, and teamwork in single or multiplayer.

Resisters received a PS5 Pro update enabling 120 Hz for smoother performance, particularly useful for players prone to motion sickness. Meanwhile, iRoot, an arcade shooter from Jeff Minter, gains a PSVR 2-exclusive mode with 55 levels and leaderboards.

Walkabout Mini Golf will raise its base price from $15 to $25 on May 1, bundling six DLCs as standard. Its eight-player multiplayer remains one of the most visually polished experiences across all headsets.

VR Games Market Trends and Performance

Resident Evil 4 Remake on PSVR 2 approaches 200,000 players. Compared to Resident Evil 7’s 1.2 million on PSVR, it lags behind in adoption, with only 2.8% of the overall RE4 player base using the VR mode. With PSVR 2’s permanent price drop, expectations are rising for a larger VR user base.

Unfortunately, Civilization 7 stumbled out of the gate with reported performance issues. While a potential fix is in progress, launching with known problems is becoming too common in recent VR titles, frustrating early adopters.
