How to Unlock the Hidden Memory in Marvel’s Wolverine (Repressed Memories)

To unlock the hidden memory and earn the Repressed Memories trophy in Marvel’s Wolverine, you need to finish the main story, unlock the post-game Best There Is Nightmare Trial, and earn at least a Bronze ranking. Completing the trial also gives you access to the game’s hidden ending.

This is why Repressed Memories can appear confusing if you’re trying to finish every trophy before completing the story. Even finding every Nightmare Door and earning high rankings on the available trials isn’t enough. The final requirement only becomes accessible after the campaign.

How to Unlock the Repressed Memories Trophy

Repressed Memories is effectively a post-game trophy.

Before you can complete its hidden Nightmare Trial, you’ll need to:

  1. Complete the main story.
  2. Finish the other Nightmare Trials with at least a Bronze ranking.
  3. Return to the Nightmare Cabin after the credits.
  4. Interact with the newly available phoenix carving.
  5. Complete the Best There Is gauntlet with at least Bronze.
  6. Leave through the Nightmare Cabin door to access the hidden memory.

You don’t need an Adamantium ranking on every Nightmare Trial. Bronze is enough to satisfy the progression requirement.

How to Unlock the Best There Is Nightmare Trial

The final Nightmare Trial isn’t available during the main campaign.

After defeating the final boss, you’ll see a cutscene in which Jean gives Logan a wooden phoenix carving.

Allow the credits to finish, then return to the Nightmare Cabin.

If you’ve completed the previous Nightmare Trials with at least Bronze rankings, a message should appear informing you that another trial has been unlocked.

Look for the phoenix carving on the shelf inside the cabin and interact with it.

Doing so begins Best There Is, the final combat gauntlet.

If the trial doesn’t appear after finishing the story, check your previous Nightmare Trials and make sure you’ve earned at least Bronze on all of the required challenges.

How the Best There Is Trial Works

Best There Is is the most demanding of the Nightmare Trial combat gauntlets.

Rather than focusing on a single earlier enemy set, it combines opponents from the previous three combat gauntlets. Its ranking thresholds are also higher, so you’ll need to build a stronger score than in the earlier trials.

Fortunately, you only need a Bronze ranking to unlock Repressed Memories and progress to the hidden ending.

That means there’s no need to chase the highest possible rank unless you’re doing so for the additional challenge.

Best Idols for the Final Nightmare Trial

The Calculating idol is particularly powerful during Best There Is and should be a priority if it appears.

Calculating allows enemies to die instantly when you successfully parry their attacks, making it extremely effective in a combat gauntlet where quickly eliminating enemies is crucial.

If you’re struggling with the trial, restarting until you get Calculating can make the encounter considerably easier.

Other useful effects include Brutish and Incendiary, as well as an idol effect that restores Logan’s health while dealing damage.

Survivability matters, but you should balance defensive effects against anything that lets you clear enemies more quickly and maintain your score.

Which Idols Should You Avoid?

Not every Nightmare Trial modifier is beneficial for Best There Is.

Be particularly cautious about the effect that causes defeated enemies to drop grenades. The additional explosives can make an already hectic gauntlet more difficult to control.

There’s also an effect that removes your other active bonuses in exchange for restoring your health.

That can be especially costly if you’ve already obtained Calculating or another strong combination of effects. Unless you’re desperate for health, preserving your existing bonuses may be more valuable.

Pay attention to each idol before breaking it rather than automatically activating every modifier that appears.

How to Get a Bronze Ranking in Best There Is

Your objective isn’t simply to survive. You need enough points to reach at least the Bronze threshold.

Prioritize efficient kills and make use of your strongest Nightmare modifiers. If you have Calculating active, look for opportunities to parry enemies rather than relying entirely on standard attacks.

Avoid taking unnecessary risks that could end the run, particularly once you’re approaching the required score.

Because Bronze is all that’s needed for Repressed Memories, there’s no reason to jeopardize a successful attempt by pushing aggressively for a higher rank unless you specifically want the additional challenge.

How to Unlock the Secret Ending

Once you’ve completed Best There Is with Bronze or better, you’re ready to access the hidden memory.

Leave the Nightmare Cabin through its door as you normally would.

Instead of simply returning you to the usual area, the exit takes Logan somewhere new. This sequence reveals the game’s hidden ending and fulfills the requirement for the Repressed Memories trophy.

You therefore don’t need to search the Nightmare Cabin for another secret interaction after completing Best There Is. Once you’ve earned the necessary rank, simply use the door.

Do You Need Adamantium Rank for Repressed Memories?

No. You don’t need Adamantium rankings to unlock the Repressed Memories trophy.

This is an important distinction because players attempting to complete everything before finishing the story may assume that higher Nightmare Trial rankings are what they’re missing.

The actual blocker is story progression.

Finish the campaign, make sure the previous Nightmare Trials have at least Bronze rankings, return to the Nightmare Cabin, and interact with Jean’s phoenix carving to start Best There Is.

Earn Bronze or better, walk through the cabin door, and the resulting hidden sequence will unlock Repressed Memories.
